After the incident with Sloan's nose bleeding twice after a headache and a time where the pain was so bad her brain shut itself down and was swelling, the Doctor had taken a few days to let Sloan rest. The last trip which wasn't supposed to be a trip had taken a lot out of her. Still she sat on a sofa in the library with her feet in the Doctor's lap as she reread one of her favorite books. She didn't even look up when she heard the library doors open up.
"Okay out with it!" Rose said making Sloan look at her in shock and confusion, but because of how bad her vocal cords were she was on a strict no talking rule until they healed. "You can talk but I haven't really heard you speak until recently but when I try talking to you I don't get a reply." Sloan looked at the Doctor for help, she may be able to do sign language but that would most likely anger Rose more than she was.
"Rose calm down! Don't yell at Sloan, she can't talk. Well not right now. Sloan hasn't spoken a word in over 18 years. Not one until she met me... But that's a different story. Sloan can't reply like she had been in the cabinet room because with all the speaking she had been doing, caused a lot of strain on her vocal cords. They need to heal before she can talk again." Rose looked at him in shock. She hadn't known, but it wasn't like she was told. It just put her off more.
"Why don't you take Rose somewhere. Just the two of you, I can rest up and Rose can get to know you." Sloan signed to the Doctor, knowing very well that the TARDIS would translate what it meant for Rose.
"Sure?" He asked her not liking the idea of leaving her alone. Rose watched the exchange and was shocked to know she understood what the motions Sloan was doing meant. She hadn't thought that the TARDIS would have translated unspoken words. Although it shouldn't have been a surprise nothing was a surprise anymore with the Doctor.
Sloan smiled at his protectiveness before signing again"Yes I am sure. Besides I think I need a day of relaxation, and restoration. Go on!"
"Okay, come on Rose, it's just you and me." He grinned getting up off the couch after Sloan moved her feet away. Rose grinned and followed him out to the console room. Sloan watched as the two left the library and then turned back to her book, until the sound of something falling. She got off her comfy seat to see that a book had fallen. She looked at it in surprise, it was one of the books that the headache memory version of her brought onto the TARDIS when they were in Arcadia.
She opened the book looking through the pages finding that it was about Gallifrey. The pictures were all so gorgeous but they didn't do it justice from the memory version she kept having. Sloan didn't outright believe they were memories because it would be impossible for her be the other version of Sloan as she only had one heart and she would have known if she were born on a different planet.
She could feel the TARDIS move and she didn't bother to know where they were going. She was a bit freaked out with what happened. The headaches were coming on closer and closer, before she started traveling she rarely ever had a headache. It was bad when she did, like when her head was so bad she went into a mini coma. She didn't know what to do about it, she needed to speak with Rory, well not speak but even if she did Rory wouldn't be able to help. The meds he had helped get her- as he went to every Doctor's appointment she had about her head- had never really worked in the first place.
She grabbed her bag off the floor near the sofa and took out the pills. Sloan stared at them for a little while before going into the med bay and setting them on the counter in there. She wasn't going to use them anymore, not when they didn't work. Then she left the room, back into the library. The library was her comfort place and this library was huge.
Sloan moved to the kitchen to make something to eat. She grinned thinking of what she was going to make. It was her comfort food, and although it took a while to make she didn't care. Rose and the Doctor were off doing whatever they were doing. Before she actually started to cook she went back into her room to grab her speakers and her iPod and blasted some music.
It took a little over an hour for Sloan to finally finish cooking. Looking around she noticed that she had made a mess to clean up but right now she didn't care. Serving herself some of the food she made she sat down at the table happily and began to eat. She then grinned when she heard the song that came on. After she finished eating, Sloan went off to clean her mess saving what would taste good as left overs and tossing the rest and did the dishes.
Finally she was back in the library and she decided to text Rory and Amy. Rory answered faster than Amy had, but it was nice in general to talk to her sister and her best friend. It felt normal something Sloan felt she needed at the moment... Especially since her headaches were getting worse. Not that she told them that. If she did Amy would freak out and Rory would demand she get checked out by a specialist.
After cleaning everything she went back to the library where she found her book and started to read again. She couldn't help but laugh every so often as the book she was reading was hilarious. At the moment she was content and she remembered that she liked being on her own. Although she much preferred to be running for her life with Rose and the Doctor it was nice for it to be just her. For a little while at least.
