Unexpected Chances

Calum POV

I couldn't believe it. My baby... is dead.

I just look over and see Kelsea in tears barely breathing herself.

She starts to pick up our baby, cradling her within her arms. I walk over to Kels and the baby and engulf them both within a bear hug. The longer we stood there the more we both cried. The baby was still attached to all the monitors throughout this process and out of nowhere we all hear the heart rate monitor begin to beep.

We look down at the baby and see her chest puff up and down to how it would look if she was breathing. The nurses and doctors rushed over and took the baby and began to do a bunch of tests and attached even more tubes and needles to the baby.

"I don't know how this happened, but your baby's heart restarted. We are running tests but if they come out clear your baby might be fine."

I wanted to cry and cheer at the same time. I didn't know how to react towards this. I hugged the doctor and cried even more.

We waited three hours and the doctor finally came into Kelsea's hospital room.

"Hi." he said.

Kelsea and me just stared at him till he continued to talk.

"So this never happens normally. We declared you baby dead for a few minutes. But I guess she wasn't ready to leave. She just missed the cusp of being premature so maybe that helps.. we don't really know. However we need to keep her here in the NICU for at least two more months to keep a look on her as she continues to grow. But other than that, so far it looks like your baby is going to be fine."

I felt relieved. I looked over and Kelsea and she was thanking the doctor and crying happy tears at the same time.

I got up in Kelsea's bed and we hugged for what felt like the longest time ever.

"Are you okay?" I asked her.

She looked up at me.

"I love you so much." She said 

I picked her face up with my hands and kissed her softly.

"I love you too. We are in this together okay?"

She nodded her head. I love her so much.

I was alive.

She was alive.

Our baby is alive.
