Chapter Two....
25th of December 2012
New York,America.
7:05 PM
Darkness fell around Craig as he tried to stand up,but his legs were too weak to withhold his weight he tried to pry his eyes open but they felt like they were glued shut.
He felt around him, searching for a tell tale clue of his where abouts but there was nothing,no rocks or pillows,no bed or ground beneath him.He felt like he was floating in mid air but yet had a strange sense of being on solid ground.
The darkness faded to a light gray and he suddenly became aware of the bitter cold breeze that was nipping at his body.
He tried once again to open his eyes but they still refused to obey him,he felt around again desperate to find a way of picking himself up.
Eventually sound drifted it's way through the silence, light sounds of glass breaking and fires crackling invaded his ears. The ground beneath him started to feel hard and cold and real!
The third time he tried to open his eyes they flew open revealing his snow covered balcony. His head felt heavy and fuzzy like he was coming out of deep sleep with a bad hangover.
"What the...?" he looked around forcing himself into a sitting position his clothes were damp and cold from lying in the snow, his bare hands were red and his whole body shivered.
A woman screamed below him on the street and somewhere in the distance he could hear glass shattering. He recognised Mr.Bakers voice calling his wifes name,he sounded panicked and close to tears as opposed to his usual calm self.
Craig had a sinking feeling that not everything was as it should be,he felt his phone still in his hand and the memory of talking to Cara came flooding back to him.He had still been talking to her when he'd passed out.
"Cara?" he said into the phone,"Cara you there?"
No answer.
"CARA?" he shouted,"CARA?"
Nothing.
He tapped the screen and pressed the 'Hold' button but the phone didn't respond it was dead.He let out a groan of frustration, what the hell was happening?
Craig stood up on shaking legs and looked around, the once mystical and beautiful scene of New York at Christmas time was now replaced by a scene from an apocalyptic horror movie.
Cars were mangled together people were lying still in the street, buildings were on fire and people were screaming it was complete chaos. Craig felt his building shake as an explosion went off near by.
"This can't be good!"
He ran into his small apartment and tried to turn on his TV but no matter how much he giggled with the buttons or hit the side it refused to turn.
He grabed his keys from the hall table and headed out determined to find Cara and make sure she was OK.
7:10 PM
Cara lay still the plush carpet of her livingroom, her little brother was staring out the window in amazement but she couldn't shake the dizzining feeling enough to try and stand up.
"Andrew where's mom and dad?" she croaked looking around the familiarroom, she could hear the screams and chaos of the streets below but she wasn't going to brave a look. The apartment had been plunged into darkness but the flickering of near by flames danced on the walls, giving her enough light to see her brother and to know that her parents were not in the room with them.
