Abigail six years old
"Mummy? Mummy!" I yell, I'm playing hide and seek with mummy but I can never find her, it's almost like she's a ninja. I hear something shift in the broom closet. I open the door and shout, "Found you!" But instead of seeing mum I see a man sitting in a pool of blood with a knife sticking out of his chest. His eyes are glazed over. I scream.
"Abby!" I hear mum scream. I turn and see both shock and the make-up I put on her earlier plastered across her face. "Abigail..." I hear her whisper as I run down the hall to my room to cry.
Abigail eighteen years old
I stand here dressed all in black looking down at my mother's cold, pale, lifeless face. I remember that day twelve years ago. My hands start shaking and I start shivering, I feel tears well up in my eyes. That man, since then mum has told me that he was going to kill her but it doesn't change anything. I am terrified that was going to happen again.... And it did. I look at the bullet hole in her chest. I feel a tear fall down my check.
A big, warm hand on my back and I instantly know who it is. Jake. The only person in the world that can make me smile and one of the only people I talk to, I hardly even talked to mum before she died. I walk away from the body that was once my mother after whispering four last words, "I loved you, mum." I walk straight out the door out to the pavement into the pouring rain. It feels good on my skin and in my hair. I face up and sigh.
I almost jump out of my skin when I feel a tap on my shoulder. It's a woman dressed in a trench coat with a black umbrella held over her head, "Abigail Rowane Anderson?" I nod, "My name is Michelle, and I was your mother's boss" This, Michelle gives me a knowing look, "You have the ability to become what your mum once was..."
What does she mean, 'What mum once was?' Is she asking me to...... to be a SPY! I give her a look of disgust and run away from this woman. She shouts after me, "Nobody says no!"
I hear the clomp-clomp of heavy footsteps behind me so I pick up the pace. I am running from this person as fast as I can.
I see a side street and rush into there and straight into a dead end. I don't want to be a spy and kill people for a living, I don't want to be like mum! I think to myself.
I search frantically for a way out but all I see is a couple of dumpsters and a balcony coming off a building... My mind forms a plan. It's a long shot but if I get caught I will either be a killer or be killed.
I climb the dumpster. The smell is putrid but I'm not focusing on that. I leap up and grab the edge of the balcony with both hands and push myself up. I race around and jump over pot plants on the balcony in my mad rush to get to the other side and away from the killer.
I have one leg over the balcony railing when I hear a familiar voice call my name, "Abigail, Abby!" The voice screams. I walk over to the side of the balcony that Jake is on and shout, "What!"
"Get down from there, what if someone see's you?!" I shrug and right on cue and old lady comes out in a night-gown, swinging her walking stick everywhere screaming, "Get the f*ck off my balcony!"
Heh, nice language for a little old lady to use. I shrug again and jump off the balcony onto the dumpster with a clash and then on the ground below. I walk into Jakes arms and let him hug me, something I have only done once back when I was six. Jake doesn't know about the body I found, but he knows I have been traumatised. He knew me when I was the spontaneous, free soul I used to be.
"What's wrong?" Jake asks and I do something else that is unlike me, I cry. I have cried before, just never in front of people. I pour out my eyes until I cannot cry anymore.
