I walked swiftly along the deserted alleyway, glancing behind me every few seconds to make sure I wasn't being followed. I turned the corner and headed towards the building. The building that now seemed like a second home to me with all of it's members; my brother's, the father that I never really had.
I said my name through the intercom to signal my arrival. A few seconds later the body guard opened the door for me.
"Hello Shawn. Has there been any trouble since I was last here?"
"Hello Kaden. Nice to see you here again. There hasn't been any trouble, nothing that I can't handle anyway. Rowdy teenagers, homeless people looking for a place to sleep...you know, the usual" I nodded and then made my way towards the lift. I saw Seth running towards me and I moved to the side.
"Seth!" I called after him but his dark brown hair had already vanished around the corner. I shrugged and stepped into the lift. I wonder if there's any more missions for me to do. I feel lost without all of this; the exciting missions, the dangerous trading meetings. I hadn't set foot in this place since my mom found out about the situation. I had been so stupid to leave the gun in my laundry. I'm just lucky she hadn't found out about the gang, what we do...well at least I had been able to persuade her to let me stay a little longer until I sorted myself out. I don't know where she had gotten the idea that her and Lexi where in danger while I am staying but it was stupid. If I saw that they may be in danger I would move out immediately anyway I'm going to find my own place now but meanwhile I have to be really careful. What if Lexi had found it? I shuddered at the thought of it. She would have never believed my story. She would have digged deeper until she found out everything about my other life and that would only mean one thing... Trouble.
I walked into the lounge to see Ash and Chase sitting on the leather sofa's laughing and joking around with each other. Ash looked up at me, smiling and started walking towards me with Chase on his heels.
"I knew you would be back" Ash said, patting me on the back.
"So how did your mom take it? I'm surprised your still alive-" I cut Chase off.
"She doesn't know, she only found the gun. I spinned some shit about it being a mate's and she believed me. I feel like shit now though".
"Aawhhh is Kaden going soft after staying away from this place for so long" I turned to see Gabe leaning against the doorway with his arms folded against his chest.
"And look who it is. Hello Gabey" I said knowing that the childish name annoys him. He only narrowed his eyes at me and said "Boss want's to see you".
I walked into the hallway towards the boss' office. As I walked along, past all of the offices', my eyes wandered over the metal plate that read 'Kaden B. Williams'. A sense of accomplishment ran through me as I realized how far I had come throughout these years; how strong I had become. I reached the boss' office, the metal plate reading 'Matt De Angelo'. I knocked and waited patiently until someone opened the door for me.
"He is ready to see you. You may come in".
"Thank you" I said and walked in.
"Hello Kaden. Take a seat. How have you been? I thought you had left us for good. It would have been a shame to lose such a talented person like yourself. It's nice to have you back".
"Thank you for your patience. It's good to be back. I just had some problems that I had to deal with, but everything is fine now"
"Ah yes, Ashton informed me of your situation. I take it that your mother does not know about us now then" He said with a tone that meant if she did know there would be trouble.
"No, she doesn't. I'm sorry for my carelessness. It will not happen again"
"I'm sure it won't Kaden, anyway I need you to take care of a small matter urgently. One of our clients; Daniel Rodgers has decided that he is going to go for a holiday without paying off his debts to us. He thinks that he can outsmart us but you need to catch up with him before he acknowledges the fact that we have been made aware of his betrayal. The folder is already on your desk and I trust that you will get to work immediately" He said with a nod of his head which was my cue to leave. I never took offense of these little not so polite gestures; none of us did because we all knew that this was who he was. He would give his life to protect us and that was what mattered to us. I said "I will handle him" and walked out. I stood outside the office feeling relieved to have something to do again. I felt unusually happy. Was this wrong? To be happy about having the opportunity to torture someone and maybe even kill them. I shaked it off. I had overcome this battle with my inner self many years ago when I learnt that being good only brings you harm in a world like this; nothing else.
***Lexi POV***
I was making my way to first period when a arm went around my waist. "Hello darling".
"Dylan!! At last your in school. What happened to you?" I said hugging him.
"Wow! I should miss school more often if I'm going to get this reaction and you know me always the first to catch a bug. Nothing and no one can stay away from me..you know, I blame it on my charming personality. So how's my best friend doing? You haven't missed me too much have you?"
"Yeah I missed you like crazy! I couldn't sleep at night without knowing where you are, if you're alright.. It was killing me!" I looked up into his brown eyes and smiled mockingly.
"Haha, you're really funny Lex!" He said walking off towards the classroom. I laughed and chased after him. We sat at the back of the classroom where Alice had saved us some seats. I was laughing at some joke Dylan had told me when I saw a gorgeous boy walk in to the class. He had light brown hair coming in to his eyes which were a honey shade of hazel. The teacher announced for us all to be quiet which didn't take very long as all of the girls were checking him out and all of the boy's were giving him deathly glare's. I must have been staring like an idiot because he met my eyes and smiled showing off cute dimples. Aawhh he is so cute! I smiled back at him and looked down so that he doesn't think that I'm some psycho that has staring problems. The boy introduced himself with a short "Hello. I'm Seth" and then Mr Greggory told him to find a spare seat. There was one in front of me and Dylan so he came and sat there.
"Miss Brookes. I'm sure you will show the young boy around and accompany him until he get's used to everything" He said. I smiled and said "Sure". When Mr Greggory stopped talking, Seth turned around and said "Thanks, so what's your name?"
"Alexia but I prefer Lexi" I said smiling, he seemed so innocent, it was hard not to smile at him.
"Nice name.." And so the conversation went on with Dylan and Alice hounding the guy every so often and when the bell rang for second period I got up and started walking to the door. He just stood there watching me.
"Don't you want me to escort you to your next lesson?" I asked smiling and holding my arm out to the door like a chauffeur. At this he laughed and followed us out. We had the same teacher again for Maths but Dylan and Alice had Art so we made our way over and Seth began to speak "So are you and Dylan friends or.." He trailed off like he felt weird asking such a question. I laughed and said "Yes, were just friends. He was only messing around when he said that were getting married."
He smiled, looking straight at me and said "Cool".
