the lights go out everywhere on earth.
bright light. a deafening crash. then
darkness. silence.
a rock that falls from a sky.
a green cloud that washes over everything, muffling the regular sounds of a typical weekend night. silent. deadly.
everywhere on earth, people are dropping to the ground. not the ones under the age of eighteen, but everyone else falls to the ground. the ones that do not dash towards them, checking for a pulse, slapping their cheeks, frantically searching for a sign of life, but they find nothing.
and still the green cloud covers the earth.
some of the children, the ones who survived, see that they have spots all over their lower left face.
but one hundred children in the entire world do not. They will not die at the age of eighteen like the others.
they are the Unnafected.
