Early Sunday morning found June sitting on her bed, looking out of the window, deep in thought about the boy who saved her life, her hero.
It was a year ago, she was dating a boy named Peter for a couple of months.
They were happy together, but over time, Peter would find excuses to cancel their outings, and would be lost in thoughts whenever they were together, if he ever went out with June at all.
Slowly, their relationship grew distant. One day, when they were having lunch together, Peter went to the washroom and left his phone on the table. It started ringing. June picked it and was surprised to see that it was her best friend calling Peter. But that was nothing compared to what she heard...
"Hey Peter, where are you? Have you broken up with June? You promised that you would do it..." Mary's voice trailed off when she didn't hear an answer.
"Hey, why are you not answering?" Mary asked.
June was too shocked and hurt to answer. She slammed the phone down just as Peter returned.
"What's wrong?" Peter asked with concern.
But June ignored him and ran out of the restaurant, barely holding back her tears.
She ran and ran, never stopping til she reached her house. She unlocked the door with shaky hands, tears streaming down her face. Once she was inside, she ran into her room and slammed the door, crying her heart out, burying her head in her pillow. She cried and cried, til her eyes were swollen and not stopping even when her parents and sister knocked on the door to check on her.
That night, she could not sleep a wink, thinking through her time with Peter, thinking about how could he cheat on her, especially with her best friend.
She also thought about how could Mary, her best friend for years, betray her. She wondered if it was something she did wrong.
Finally, after hours of tossing and turning in bed, wondering about what to do, and idea finally came to her.
The next morning, she sneaked out of the house when her sister was sleeping, dead to the world while her parents were at work.
