wooseok did not like school. he never liked high school, so why would people tell him college would be better? college was not any better. college was worse. the homework, the schedules— everything was not okay. all he wanted was sleep, but no one would give it to him. there was nothing that really motivated him to go to school other than his roommates.
there was hyunggu, the short (everyone who was under six feet tall was short to wooseok) dancing kid who was always smiling and doing well in life. there was also adachi, the transfer student who really liked korean— that was about it. wooseok and adachi shared music often, and wooseok and hyunggu were just giant softies.
that was the other thing about wooseok: he was the giant kid who was a softie, but looked like he was ready to set off a bomb underneath the school at any given moment. the way he acted around strangers didn't really help him either, but he was a softie— hyunggu and adachi could vouch for him.
if there was one subject wooseok absolutely hated, it was science. he took all of the classes when he was in high school, but transcript errors occurred, and wooseok found himself stuck in the stupid science classes all over again, all his past credits down the drain. this was why college sucked.
"i hate this," wooseok complained as he fell forward onto his textbook.
various people shushed him, and wooseok turned his head to see adachi, who was sideways. adachi shrugged and looked across the table where hyunggu was sitting and reading his reading assignment.
"don't look at me," hyunggu said as he looked up from his book to see both kids looking at him. "i'm terrible at science."
wooseok sighed sat up, his back leaning so far back that his shoulders almost hung off the chair. he stretched out his arms behind him as he looked around the seemingly empty library. there were a couple students and teachers here and there, but that was normal.
what was not normal, however, was the exceptionally short male standing by a shelf of books. he was standing on the tips of his toes and reaching for a book on the top most shelf. wooseok had to bite back a laugh as he saw the short boy jump merely centimeters off the ground, only to barely reach for the book in vain.
"hey, where are you going?" adachi asked as wooseok got up.
"getting a book," wooseok whispered half to himself and half to adachi.
wooseok walked right up to the short boy, the struggling boy, and picked up a book right off the bookshelf. it wasn't the book the short boy needed, but it was a book pretty close to it.
"hey!" the boy whisper-hissed at wooseok. "do me a favor."
"huh?" wooseok asked.
the short boy flinched at wooseok's tone and pointed at the book he wanted. wooseok's eyes travelled to the book, and then he looked down again.
"can you get me this book?" the boy asked.
wooseok looked at the boy, and then the book. he barely reached up to get the book and handed it to the boy before taking his own book and leaving, his face unmoving. he heard a small thank you as he left, a small smile appearing on his face.
"why did you do that?" adachi asked as wooseok returned; hyunggu and adachi had both been watching.
"i wanted to stretch," wooseok said simply.
adachi and hyunggu looked at each other before shrugging. wooseok looked away from them and searched for the short boy with the big book. sure enough, he found him waddling out of the library with the big book in his hands, a chuckle escaping his lips. what was a short kid like him doing with the big textbook like that?
