Put your happiness in the little things. Things that will never fail you, like the rising sun shining above the trees in a breathtaking orange color, or the bright red leaves of fall. Place your happiness in things like cold water running through a stony stream, or the steam rising off of a pond, or newborn puppies.
What I have learned throughout my short life is not to give my happiness to people or things that will inevitably fail me, but rather in the memories that we make together and the things we see and the things that provide a simple bliss- a moment of happiness not defined by a single person but by seeing the beauty in things and enjoying the fact that you lived to see it. There's a certain satisfaction that overwhelms me when I see the morning sunshine, the fresh frost, or a squirrel scampering up a narrow tree.
I put my happiness in nature. Nature never fails to amaze me. There are so many magical things contained in the nature that surrounds people wherever they go, so many simple majesties engulfing us, and we don't even realize it.
I place my happiness in laughter. Whether it be mine or someone else's, laughter never fails to make me happy. It's such a timeless art, such a simple definition of happiness. Maybe it only lasts a moment; but a moment's happiness is better than a day of none.
Put your happiness in a thoughtless "have a good day." Place your happiness in lyrics that speak to you. Place your happiness in clothes that make you feel good, inside and out. Place your happiness in puppies, or good hair days, or whatever gives you joy.
Put your happiness in momentary things that are so simple, yet monumental. If you can find happiness in the little things, you'll see that finding happiness in the big things will come more easily.
Happiness comes from within.
