Chapter 1 - The Truth

[CHAPTER 1]

Life had always thrown me hurdles but yesterday was the day my life changed forever, yesterday myself, my younger brother and my mother were going to my grandma's house because it was the day before my 16th birthday, I was excited to finally be 16 mainly because of the party tomorrow, all of my school friends were coming along with my family, well my small family I wasn't close with a lot of my family.

As we arrived I could feel something wasn't right between my grandma and my mother however I kept quiet and went along with everything after having dinner at my grans the two of them headed upstairs to do some jobs but I could tell it was a cover because they went to talk. So myself and brother followed them upstairs but didn't fully go up so we weren't noticed we were noisy and wanted to listen to what they were talking about however I wish I hadn't.

As we sat there I heard my gran say "Anne she needs to know the truth" my gran said which made me and my brother looked at each other confused "no she doesn't" my mother said her tone sounded upset "she's going to 16 tomorrow she's going to be an adult" my gran said which made me begin to get confused "she's going to be 16 she's still a child" my mother said beginning to get more upset but so was I, what was she keeping from me "no not yet and you can't tell her either" my mother said, what was she keeping that was that bad that my gran was pressuring her into telling me.

"Anne they both need to know the truth John needs to know that he isn't her father, that Mycroft is" my gran said which made tears begin to form in my eyes because I had just found out that my dad wasn't my dad but someone else was, I wasn't close with my father he often came in and out of my life but finding out someone else is my father was still a shock to me and I didn't know what to do. "They will both think I cheated on John but I didn't we were on a break when I met Mycroft on a night out with my friends, we slept together only once and I didn't find out that I was pregnant until I got back with John, the only reason Mycroft knows is because he spied on me" my mum said, my biological father knew that I existed but wasn't in my life.

"Still she needs to know before it's too late and she finds out another way it has to be from you Anne no one else" my gran said as I peeked around the corner for a second to see the look on her face she looked remorseful but i was angry because she hadn't told me the truth and had lied to me for all these years. So I quietly walked back down the stairs so that they didn't hear me because I wasn't ready to talk to my mother after what I just heard.

After I walked down the stairs I went back into the living room and sitting down the couch and my brother Zack sat down beside me before looking at me "Beth are you ok?" Zack asked in a confused tone but I wasn't sure how I felt right now let alone ok. "I don't know right now" I said burying my face in my hands. When we headed home I went straight to my room closed the door behind me and laying on my bed, that night I couldn't sleep at all I just laid there staring at the ceiling when I came up with a plan. I got up out of my bed getting changed before grabbing my rucksack and beginning to fill it with clothes, my phone charger, toiletries and some money that I had made from a part time job.

I had just finished year 11, which was the last year of secondary school which meant I had just finished my exams, i and four months till my first year of college, which meant 4 months to find my father and hopefully speak to him if he wanted to or if he regrets not having anything to do with me as a child, so I head down to the basement where my mom  worked before opening her desk with two hair pins, I had learnt how to pick locks by watching a lot of spy films as a kid.

So I began to grab a piece of paper from the desk draw after searching through it and not finding anything useful, before getting a pen and writing a note to my mother explains that I was leaving and finding my father as i placed the note on her desk I noticed something it looked like a false bottom, something else I had picked up from spy films so I quickly emptied the draw before using a metal ruler to lift up the false bottom inside were letters, photographs, checks so I took it all out and put in my bag before putting the false bottom back, and all the contents in the desk before locking it back up and heading out the basement before closing the door behind me.

I put on my backpack before heading back up to my bedroom quietly closing the door before opening my window and climbing out of the window it was a small drop so I hit the ground when it hurt a little but I got up and began to run in case my mother heard me. Once I got far enough away I began to walk to the train station it had took me an hour to get there I got there at 6:35am so the sun had began to rise.
