Hunter

I stare at the time on my phone, 5:49pm, I have been sitting in this cramped up car for four hours in complete silence, well almost complete silence. I had just chosen to go with my dad to the country instead of going with my mother to the city, he was very pleased when he heard that and even though my mum was upset she understood why I wanted to go with him and anyway I said I would come back to see her when school started back up again.

I've lived 16 years of my life stuck in a tiny apartment with nothing exciting to do, no fresh air and constantly listening to cars screeching up and down the highway. I guess my parents just got sick of each other so they decided to go their own way, no I wasn't upset I was just happy to know that I won't be hearing their horrific screaming and yelling to each other anymore.

I rolled down the window and breathed in the fresh sent of pine trees lining the edge of the road, I am so glad I chose this instead. We crossed a small stream flowing under the road beneath us making its way into a waterfall on the other side, there were little green frogs, fish swimming about and some birds floating in the water waiting for a fish to swim close to the surface so it could catch it.

I leant my head against the side of the door with the breeze blowing in my face, I took another look at my phone which read 6:15pm. The sun was just starting to set so when we get there we will just have to grab our swags out of the back of the car and find a spot in the house to sleep for the night.
At that moment the car turns around a corner and heads down a straight road with trees hanging over it, at the end I can see the house and now I am wishing I had of just stayed with mum...

The house is two storys tall and all made out of very dark wood, there are dead leaves everwhere and if you saw this house then you would've thought someone has died in in it!
Every inch of it was screaming death, but I was now stuck here with my dad until school started up again, thats around a month. Then id go back to the city with mum, come on hunter you can do this! Just one month.

"Were here" dad said, (yeah no shit) he was relieved that he didnt have to drive anymore. "Well do you like it?"

He was smiling and looking very proud to have bought this death trap, I didnt want to upset dad and have him kill me on the spot for being so rude, or have the house kill me as soon as I walked through the door, but the house was a better chance to survive so, "yeah, its huge, a little creepy though"
A little part of me told me not to admit that but I wasn't thinking straight.

He laughed "yeah but it'll just take some time to getting used to"

We pulled up to the edge of the house and stepped out of the car I looked at the house and it seemed to actually look worse up close. I instantly walked slowly up to the door, the boards creaking under my feet every step I took, I was just waiting for one of them to snap at any moment and for me to fall down into a cellar underneath it full of dead bodies or something. I look back towards the car to see dad unloading some of the stuff to get to the swags, I continued anyway.

I placed my hand on the cold, battered doornob, turned it fully and attempted to open it, but it wouldn't budge. I sighed and pushed on the door with all my weight until the door finally gave way leaving me unbalanced and falling face first onto the old dusty floor.

I stood up and brushed the dirt and dust off of me, straight ahead I could just make out a staircase through the complete darkness, I walked in a few steps and turned behind me to see my dad walking up to the house, he got to the door way and turned to his left to find a light switch, he tried switching it on but nothing happened. He sighed.
The sun was setting and it was getting darker outside, meaning soon we wont be able to see anything at all.

"Oh well, we'll try to get that fixed in the morning, there's not enough time right now" he said looking around the inside of the house from the door way. He gestured towards my swag, "Well might aswell just grab your swag and  torch and sleep down here for the night"

"Ok, I'll grab some food too" I said walking over to the car and grabbing a few packets of chips, unhealthy as fuck but who cares I just sat in a car for 4 to 5 hours and im tired, I grabbed my swag and a torch and walked into the house, there was a huge staircase, like I thought.

At the top it splits into two ways, right in the middle of the room I look above me to find a huge old glass chandelier covered in cobwebs, then to the left of the huge stairs I walked down the corridor and at the end was a huge room that had a big old looking fire place that looked like I could crawl up it. It also had a few couches draped in plastic sitting around the carpet on the floor, with some weird objects and paintings hanging up. This must be the living room.

I shine the torch at the huge old windows and realise they're completely covered in dust. I wipe away the dust with my sleeve and shine the torch through the window, to see nothing but creepy forest that sends chills down my spine.

I set my swag down on the carpet, put the torch in my mouth to hold it and began to undo my swag and lay it out, dad came in a few momens later and set his swag down next to mine. Once we were all settled, I pulled the packets of chips out of my pocket and we started eating them, not a word was passed until we had finnished and were just lying in bed.

"Its alright hunter, we'll get this place looking great very soon" he said lying under the blankets.

"Mhm" was all I could say cause I was so fucking tired and hes got to be joking if he's gonna talk all night, otherwise I'll drag my swag up into one of the other freaky rooms away from him.

"Yeah, that reminds me tomorrow morning at 5:00 I have to leave for my new work, I wont be back until 7:00 so I will pull all the stuff off of the car and dump it on the ground outside. I need you to fix the power, set all our stuff up and clean up a bit, dont break anything and I'll be back with pizza for dinner"

"Ok" was all I could say cause he wanted me to do what??!! Does he even realize how much that is? This house is huge! But I was too tired to argue right now so I just decide to lay there.

"Good boy, thanks for coming" he said switching off his torch "goodnight"

"Night" I say as I turn off my torch, tomorrow is going to be a long day.
