"Terrence, come on, you're going to be late for school and I'm not driving you again! I have work too, ya know!" Terrence groaned as his mom's voice traveled into his room and he got up, shuffling down the stairs and into the kitchen, where he found his mom, Sasha, sitting at the table with a tall glass of what looked like red wine. Of course, Terrence knew better.
He winced as he saw the gray fur on the kitchen island, "Really, mom, Mrs. Haymish's cat?"
She raised an eyebrow, taking a sip of the no doubtedly warmed blood, "What? There was no time to hunt! Just be glad it wasn't Mrs. Haymish herself. Plus, the darned thing never stops climbing onto our damned roof."
Terrence groaned, but still went over to the portable freezer tucked under the marbled island and grabbed one of the jugs his mom had stashed the blood in. Pouring some into a black mug that had "Fuck Off" in white letters on the side, he sat down across from Sasha.
If it wasn't obvious, Terrence and his mom were vampires. Pale skinned, blood sucking, burns-in-sun-if-skin-isn't-covered, cape wearing, fang bearing, lived-to-be-several-hundred-years-old, vampires. Terrence was a pure blood, having been born of vampire parents, which was slightly rare. Vampires had a lower chance of getting pregnant, and his mom was a lucky one.
He was a spitting image of her, wavy caramel hair with darker brown streaks, forest green eyes, and pale skin. He seemed to have his father's height though, reaching 5'8 at 14, while his mom was 5'5.
Terrence never knew his father, and didn't really care much about him either way. Apparently he ran off a couple months after he was born, leaving his mom to support her and her ravenous child herself. All they had of him was a couple pictures and his name, Samuel Landers, on his birth certificate.
Finishing off his drink, Terrence slipped the mug into the sink and grabbed his bookbag, sliding it over his shoulder. "Alright, mom, I'm gonna go now before I really am late." He waved to her as he walked out, pulling the hood of his navy blue hoodie over his face.
As soon as he reached the end of his street, his childhood friend Jackson Smith came out of his house, waving to him. "Hey, Ren!"
"How many times have I told you not to call me that??" Terrence huffed, cuffing him upside the head as Jackson stepped closer.
"Oh, a little over a million, I believe." He smirked. Jackson fit every stereotype about gingers there were. Bright red hair, bright green eyes, an attitude that made everyone wanna laugh and kill him at the same time, and he probably didn't have a soul either.
Also, he didn't know about Terrence's big secret. Neither did his other two close friends, Nathan and Nadia James. The only person other than his mom ((and of course dad)) that knew about it was the only other vampire in school, Andrew Falke. They weren't extremely close but they did hang out sometimes.
"Oh yeah, dude, did you know that Jennifer hooked up with 2 different guys over the weekend?" Jackson asked, laughing.
Terrence raised an eyebrow, "Am I supposed to care? We broke up like a year ago back in 8th grade. I don't know why she continues to pester me. I think she wants me dead." He chuckled, boots crunching on gravel as they stepped into the school parking lot.
He feels an elbow nudge him and turns to see Jackson looking towards the school steps. "Speak of the devil and she shall appear." Jennifer was leaning against the metal railing, dressed in her usual barely knee high skirt and tight blouse, flirting with one of the baseball jocks.
"I don't know why she has such a grudge against you when she was the one who was cheating." Terrence turned to see Nathan and Nadia walk up, Nadia looking into her phone and fussing over her strawberry blonde hair which looked like it could use a better hair straighter.
Terrence waved at the two before turning back around, leading their tiny group up the stairs and into the school building, where they separated to go to their lockers. Nathan's was right next to his, but Jackson's and Nadia's were both on the other side of the hall.
"What are you gonna do about her anyway?" Nathan asked.
"What do you mean?" Terrence pulled out his math and history books and pencil case from his locker before stuffing them in the smallish bag he wore to carry his supplies between classes.
"I mean, are you just gonna put up with her always giving you the stink eye? I mean, she even tries to trip you up and spreads rumors sometimes, that's basically bullying!" Nathan pouted, light green eyes wide.
"There's nothing I can really do about it. Plus, it doesn't really bother me. The stuff she tells isn't that big anyway." It was true, she always spread small stuff, like his father left them cause they were poor or something like that. It was stupid stuff that really wouldn't hurt him, plus, if he really needed to, he could easily beat her up.
"I don't know, man, she looks like she's planning something again." They both looked over to where Jessica was leaning against the entryway, smirking at Terrence.
"It's whatever. As I said, she's not really doing me any harm anyways." He watched as she walked off towards the cafeteria before he turned and headed to where Jackson and Nadia were waiting by the entrance to the cafeteria.
"Dude, Jessica looks like she's planning something again. I suggest you watch out. Remember that time she put a bunch of painted tampons in your locker?" Nadia ran her hand through her hair.
Jackson shuddered, "I think one of them was really covered in blood."
Terrence snickered while Nathan groaned, "Can we just go get something to eat already? My mom left for work early and didn't make me breakfast." He pouted.
Terrence laughed, "Dude, learn how to fix your own food. You're 15 for god's sake." He shoved the pouting boy slightly before leading them towards the cafeteria.
As soon as the others had gotten their food and they had seated themselves at a table, Jessica walked over.
The four of them collectively groaned, and Jackson whispered, "Creep Alert, Creep Alert."
Instead of sitting, Jessica climbed onto the table, placing her hands on her hips. If any of them looked up, they would have gotten a good look of her underwear, but they were too curious, yet cautious, of what she was doing that none of them did.
After making sure she had the whole room's attention, she placed her hands around her mouth and declared, "Terrence is gay, and dating Nathan!"
