Mr. McKinley claps and shouts
-good! So the first eleven guys come with me, eleven more are going to be in the other court while the rest of you stay on the bench!- Matt and I decided to go and take a seat, just because we were too respectful for playing with girls but we were also too lazy for playing with the other guys.
So, we were just going to sit there until we didn't have something else to do and we could go back to the dressing rooms.
At least we weren't the only lazy human beings in our grade; about 5 guys sat with us on the bench while on the other side of the court were the five girls that didn't want to play.
This kid that intrigued me, sat on our bench but he was like 10 feet away from us, almost like if we were going to bite him or I don't know what the hell, also he was sitting on a place where the rain was falling over him, so his shirt was starting to get wet.
I looked at Matt and whispered
-we should be friendly with him.
-With who? - He asked while he looked around and watched the skinny guy with a little notebook over his thighs.
Matt raised an eyebrow and said
-That guy?
-Yep, that guy. I will invite him to take a seat with us, is that ok?
-dude... do you know him? - We were having this little chat in a low voice level, but anyway I could say that the guy knew our intentions, so I still did it.
Being honest I didn't really care about Matt's answer, so I was going to tell him anyway.
-hey... dude...- the guy turned his head to face me and I felt a little bit impressed, I hadn't seen his face before with so much detail like in that moment.
His face was elongated and he had a beatle haircut... like me, in fact I should say that our facial features looked kind of similar but definitely his eyes were bigger.
I smiled and said
-would you like to sit with us? I mean, the rain is damping you.
-uhm... really?- oh my god, his voice was much deeper than what I thought.- wouldn't you mind?
-not at all. Come on.- he picked up the little notebook from his thighs and then walked to sit nearer, this time the little roof protected him.
Matt looked at me as if I was crazy, but I cleared my throat trying to look casual and I said
-I'm Alex, and this is Matt.
-hi... I'm Miles...- wow, Miles was a pretty name.
He instantly turned his head back to his notebook so that he could continue with whatever he was writing.
We didn't talk anymore, Matt just gave me a stern look that absolutely meant 'told you', but I couldn't give up that easy... or maybe I could. I'm not exactly an eloquent guy and even if Miles intrigued me so much, I wouldn't be able to have a nice talk with him.
I'd rather stay silent for the rest of the hour than trying to tell something to the dude, as I said before, I'm not a guy who talks so much, the only ones who had listened to the chatty Alex are Matt, Alexa and my parents. That's all.
By the way, I wouldn't mind if Miles started with something more basic like small talk, that's not my thing, it was usually Matt's, but my best friend was far too distracted by Breana, the girl that he liked.
So I was there sitting on a bench, trying to get focused on talking with Miles while the rest of the guys stared at the girls that were playing, Matt included, and the ones who weren't staring at them, were doing other kind of things like Miles who was writing on that little notebook over his thighs.
