Ivory
An escape from reality is what Ivory Frazier needed. And an escape from reality is what she received. It was late at night, probably 1AM, but Ivory couldn't fall asleep.
Although her eyes were closed, her mind was wide open; over-thinking even the slightest of things. There was an ache in her chest, and she welcomed the melancholy.
Ivory felt empty, and it didn't help that she was listening to the saddest songs she could find. There was never exactly a reason for her current sadness, it just came whenever it liked. Sometimes she worried that she was mentally sick and needed a diagnosis. Most times though, she shrugged it off casually.
But right now there was a reason. A few hours ago, at Nine-Thirty to be exact, Cameron Michael's broke up with her. Break-ups are always tragic (sometimes), but it wasn't the fact that they broke up; it was the fact that he was the one who called it quits. And it was her first time being dumped; Ivory was used to being the heart-breaker.
Sanity was something Ivory needed a recheck on. Was she insane? No. But there is something very wrong with her. And she still can't process what it is.
In her right hand, she held a piece of razor from her shaving razor and the temptation to press it down on her skin was giving her anxiety. She promised herself to fight the urge; so instead, Ivory Frazier threw the razor down and cried herself to sleep.
When she woke up the next morning, Ivory felt refreshed. As if her state last night never happened. It was easy to hide the pain; smile, laugh, pretend you're happy.
Ivory got ready for school, a routine all too familiar to her. She always showered first, and breakfast for her was quite rare. Although today was an exception since she could smell the sweet aroma of pancakes wafting through her bedroom.
With her girly pink duffle bag on her shoulder, she practically marched towards the kitchen.
"Morning mother dear", it was always how she greeted her mum nowadays, also with an air kiss.
"Morning muffin", her mum Julie was pouring orange juice into three glasses.
As Ivory suspected, pancakes were laid out on a large plate in the middle of the breakfast island, and she greedily picked one up. Muffling a 'thanks' to her mum, she chewed while making her way to the front door. Earphones plugged in, Ivory walked to school glumly.
Cara
Mornings were always Cara's favorite. Mornings were one of the only times she ever got to be alone properly. She could listen to music and clear her head of the BS that usually happens. And today wasn't any different. She had barely any sleep last night due to her mum drinking furiously again, which put her step-dad in a horrendous frenzy.
There was also the fact that Emme, the girlfriend of the guy she liked, was constantly messaging her. Emme and Max have been together for a solid five months. It wasn't that Emme was a bad person, but Cara could see the jealousy clear in Emme's sweet words.
Max and Cara aren't exactly 'close friends', but they were something a little more than 'just friends'. Since Emme had total access to Max's Facebook account, well let's just say there was more than a little tension between Cara and Emme.
That was the reason Cara hasn't spoken to Max in so long, and she's longing for another week with him at her dad's beach house. That was her secret to keep, and a secret it would stay. For now, her inner voice chanted.
Cara smiled, lost in thought as she walked through the gates of Blairstone College. Walking past Rachel and Jennifer, Cara inwardly rolled her eyes as the two blond girls shamelessly flirted with Brad and Asher.
"Bimbos", Cara muttered, changing the song on her phone. Another message popped up from Emme and Cara sighed with annoyance. Does the bitch ever leave it be? Although Emme was being so nice, the conversation always turned towards Max. And it was always frustrating when Emme constantly asked questions about him: So are you guys close? When was the last time you guys hung out? We should go out together, me with Max, and you with whomever you're with these days.
Sauntering down the stairs, Cara walked past the school café and towards her role class. The school was built on an awkward angle, starting from a top of a hill with stairs leading to the bottom. Their school didn't have lockers, so whatever you took to school, you had to carry around all day. With the exception of class though, there were port racks outside every classroom. It was already 8:40am, so there was no way she could pre-order her lunch from the canteen without coming back late.
Laughter seemed to be walking towards Cara and she turned around to see Ivory and her 'fan club'. Ivory was loud, and maybe a bit too outgoing. Confidence didn't seem to be a problem with her and her 'sweetness' was always confused with flirtation. Although she would smile at you at first meeting her, once you've got your back turned around, daggers of poison will be shooting from her eyes.
In the past Cara's experienced one of Ivory's jealous encounters and it sure wouldn't be the last. The bitch literally oozed jealousy. There was this one time last year when Cara was good friends with Kyle, who was Ivory's current boyfriend back then, and the next thing she knew, Ivory had her closest friends threatening Cara.
"Hey Cara!" Ivory smiled gleefully, gesturing for a hug. There it was again, the contagious sweetness.
"Hey", Cara gave ivory a brief hug, noticing how strong her perfume was. Ya know, there's one thing to want to smell good, but it's another thing to bathe in fragrance.
"It's quite tragic really", Bethany started.
"What's tragic?" Cara asked.
"Oh wait, you haven't heard?" Excitement was present in Karen's voice, but she seemed to want to hide it.
"Um, no", Cara was very confused. She was about to ask more about it when Ivory continued what Bethany and Karen were blabbing about.
"Cameron and I broke up." Ivory appeared to look quite sad for a second, but her cherry on a cake smile resurfaced.
"Aw", Cara didn't really know what to say, she wasn't very shocked that they'd broken up. Cameron was never fit to handle Ivory's attitude. Cara wouldn't be surprised if everyone already knew about this break up. Ivory was known to have a big mouth, and keeping it shut would be a huge problem with her.
Their role class teacher was strolling towards the door and by now, the port rack area was absolutely crowded. Turning off her music with a grumpy appearance, Cara walked into the classroom, hoping to stay away from Ivory's dramatic BS.
