Detective Blue sat at his desk puffing away at a Cigarette. He blew the ash colored smoke into the air as he read an old file. Then he slapped the old file back down on the desk and sighed. He hadn't had a case in months, and he had absolutely no other way to entertain himself. Just then his trusty partner Matthew Denard swung open the door to his office and walked in."It is really pathetic you know? How you just mope around doing absolutely nothing when you don't have a case." He said in a vexing manner. "Seriously don't you do anything but work?"
"What is it that you want Denard?" William sighed trying to hide his exasperation.
Denard just shook his head at him not answering the question then he exhaled sharply, "Well I am happy to inform you that we have a case."
"Oh thank heavens, what is it about?" William asked sitting up engaged by the news.
"In the small town Belmont, East of here, has been having a lot of suicides lately. People related to the Victims claim that they were not suicides, but murders. However, there are no leading facts anywhere that tells if these are reliable statements, so they want us to go check it out." Detective Denard explained.
"And we got clearance for this case?" He asked.
"Yes, but on one condition. We have to take junior." Denard replied.
"Why do we have to take him?" William sighed.
"He needs more experience out on the field, and you're the best so who better to teach him?" He smirked in reply.
William scowled and slumped down in his desk chair, which Denard saw as a very juvenal gesture "I don't like kids."
"He's 24 that's not exactly a kid." Denard pointed out.
"Yes but he's young and inexperienced, therefore he is inadequate to work on a case this huge." William stood up from his chair, put out the cigarette in the ash tray, and took broad steps as he moved to the front of his desk.
"I was in my twenties when I started to work for you, and you didn't have too much of a problem with me." Denard rolled his eyes.
"You were motivated and had passion, and to be honest you weren't completely ignorant. Kids these days are lazy and irresponsible they don't have the same spark that you did." William explained. "Plus I knew I could train you right, and now look you're forty something, and are almost as good a detective as me."
"I'm 36 only a couple years younger than you." Denard said disgruntled.
"Well we can't all look as young as me when I was your age right." William said facetiously.
"Fine then, if you're that against taking junior than we cannot take the case, and you can go back to moping." Denard chimed starting to walk out the door.
"Wait, fine I guess the kid can come, but if he gets in the way we are sending him on the first train out of there." William spouted in annoyance.
He then joined Denard as they walked out of the office, and toward the junior detective's cubical. Denard turned the corner and found junior detective Jacob Pulley sitting at his desk nonchalantly.
"Pulley it's your lucky day you, somehow, were chosen to join us on a big case." Denard announced.
"Really?! That's so epic!" Jacob exclaimed, jumping up in exclamation, before clearing his throat. "I mean that's cool when do we start?"
"The earlier the better." William spoke up coarsely. "Be ready in ten minutes. We will be leaving for Belmont in less than an hour." He then slickly turned on his heal, and returned to his own office.
"That doesn't give me a lot of time to prepare. Why are we going out into the field so early? Shouldn't we do some research first?" Jacob inquired.
"With William Blue there is no research until he sees things first hand" Denard rendered.
"What do you mean?" Jacob questioned.
"He doesn't need it. He's too exceptional to need it." Denard smiled. "Don't tell him I said that though or we both will never hear the end of it. And he's serious about being ready in ten minutes, so I advise you to go get ready."

Pulley met up at the train station with William and Denard just after twenty minutes time.
William released a slightly disapproving sigh, but didn't say a word. He just put his dark grey fedora, with a silky black belt tied tightly around it, on top of his slick back, dark brown hair. He then buttoned up his long overcoat, in matching colour, leaving the top few buttons undone. He was a truly old fashioned dresser, but didn't mind the fact that he may have stood out in a crowd. It matched his old fashioned personality. Although it were true that he could sometimes come off as a bit harsh and cold, or as Denard thought, childish, he usually acted very gentlemanly around strangers.
"Nice of you to get here on time." Denard said sarcastically.
"I apologize I had a run-in with an old friend an he simply would not let me leave." Pulley explained short-windily.
"There are no excuses for being late in detective work. Being on time could determine if a client sees you as professional. It also could make the difference between the culprit being captured or getting away, and if the victim lives or dies. If you want to be a detective, Mr. Pulley, you have to understand this." William explained in a serious manner. "Lucky for you I told you to come early because I knew you would be late, so now your actually on time."
Jacob raised an eyebrow. "wait... what?"
William sighed in annoyance. " I knew you would be approximately fifteen minutes late therefor I told you to get here fifteen minutes earlier so now you're on time. Now I hate repeating myself, so do try to keep up with me Mr. Pulley." William then climbed onto the train.
"Right I'll do that." Jacob muttered to himself before he too boarded the train.
