"You look horrible in that dress" Ariels sneers, applying her mascara thickly, "Its just not doing anything for your boobs."
I glare in the mirror smoothening the creases of a pink silk dress my Mom left me before she fled off to her latest Hollywood sweetheart. I honestly thought it suited me well, which was surprising as I had never worn anything like this before. I tend to stick to attire that has no color.
"Hey... try this!" Kimberly says attempting to shadow Ariels stormy mood.
She wavers a form-fitting black dress in the reflection of the mirror. Boring, but it will enhance the scarce curves I have, which Ariel kindly pointed out. It will have to do.
The girls look amazing. Ariel with her deep red hair in contrast with her smouldering makeup, wearing jeans and a crop top - yet somehow still managing to look like she spent hours getting ready. Then Kimberly with her cropped hair and mousy complexion in a satin slip dress and strappy rose-gold heels.
Tonight was the first party of the year, and the biggest. Even the lower food chains rocked up, which was rare as they normally steer clear of any distraction from their Saturday night studies. This week had been full on with trials and SAT's along with excess amounts of homework. I was well over due for a few of shots of vodka.
"Yo! What drinks do you have in your cellar" asked a slightly tipsy Dylan.
"You have a cellar!?" A jock who I couldn't care to remember his name chimed in.
"All the drinks are on the counter in the kitchen." I warned, remembering the look on my Dads face a few months ago when they drank his special aged wine.I already had trouble seeing correctly when we all arrived at the party.
I would almost go as far as saying that his house was almost as spectacular as mine, almost. He had a courtyard with a fountain and a proportionally lit driveway. If I was in a different state of mind I would of admired it for longer, but I was drawn to the warmth and throb of the music that was inside.
It was a hive of activity as I predicted. From girls falling over each other in the bathroom to beer pong in the other corner of the large room. Once we had all entered everyone stopped what they were doing and were over come with a flush of soberity. I don't blame them, we were a frightful sight. Dylan and the boys with their sweaty, beer stained tees, then us with touches of our makeup falling out of place as a result of the pre-loading at mine.
The commotion started up again and the night had begun.
I grabbed Kimmy's hand and knew that for the rest of the night I would be by her side.
We made a bee-line towards the dance floor and danced to the music in perfect time. Four years of cheerleading only came in handy in the late hours of Friday nights after a few drinks. The sway of our hips and toss of our hair tonight were no match to the heavily practiced routines on Friday games.
Around us were boys dancing on the bodies of half naked girls. One couple looked almost canabalistic. The girl was eating the face off an unconscious teen, her lip stick stains all over his face.
Whilst my eyes were diverted for a matter of seconds, Kimmy was whisked off into the arms of a horny teenage boy, who only had one intention. She willingly went with him and I chuckled at her stupidity.
"REMEMBER PROTECTION!" I shouted out as she was sucked into the crowd.
So much for being by my side.
