Shay's POV
"Come on Shay! Just ask him out already, you know you like him," Riley whispered. I squirmed. "No! Just... no..." "Why not?" She wondered. "Because, I don't want to make the first move. Even if I did, what if he doesn't like me," I answered.
Riley shook her head. "Scardey cat," she said. "Am not." Then I think about it.... "Well," I continue, "maybe just a little bit."
"Shay, Riley," Mrs. Anderson says. "Is there something that you would like to share with the class?"
I felt my face turn beet red. "N-n-no," I studder. I can feel Riley's eyes on me.
"Shay likes Kel-" "Shut up!" I hissed, cutting Riley off. Riley put her hands up in defeat.
Kellin turns around. "What?" he asks. "Nothing, nothing. She didn't say anything," I panic. Ugh, he's so cute...
"Alright, lets get back to the lesson," Mrs. Anderson says.
Both Riley and I roll our eyes. I nod and Riley pulls out what I recognize as her writing journal.
The pen in Riley's hand zooms across the paper. instead of listening to the lesson, I watch Riley's pen. it's way more entertaining than the math lesson.
"Shay," the teacher calls. I look up. "What did I say the homework is?" I hesitate, I don't know.
"Some worksheet." I say quietly. "Yes," Mrs. Anderson says. "Riley, what is the homework?"
Riley looks up. "Um, 8.4 worksheet," she responds. Mrs. Anderson nods. "You can grab your sheets on the way out."
At that second, the bell rings. We quickly gather our items. Then Riley walks over to Kellin. I see them talking as I finish packing up.
"Shay," the teacher calls. I look at Mrs. Anderson. She motions for me to come up to the desk.
I throw my pencil case into my purse and head up front.
"Yes ma'am," I say, my voice shaking. "Make sure to have a good birthday, and please make sure to pay attention next week," she says.
Relief washes over me. I smile. "Thanks. I will," I tell her. Next i run out of the room.
The second I exit, I run into Kellin.
"Hey butterfly. What did Mrs. A want?" Kellin asks. "Just told me to have a good birthday and to pay attention more." Kellin nods. "Sounds like her," he says. "Yup,"Riley adds in.
Kellin shoots Riley a look. "Did i ask you bear?" he asks. I can't help but laugh at his tone.
Riley looks at Kellin. "Well, I'm going with Shay to drop off our books in our room and get ready for tonight." She says.
Then she takes my hand and we walk off to our room. The whole time, Riley is scolding me for not 'making a move' as she says.
