Chapter 2: Riley
I close the door. "Why didn't you ask him out!" I turn around and look into Shay's pleading eyes. "I-I don't know. I just don't want to make the first move. It doesn't feel right," she explains. "And if he is scared to make the first move?" I ask.
She thinks about it for a second. "First of all," she began, "he is the boy. He HAS to make the first move. And if he's scared he needs to suck it up and just ask me already!" I nod. "Makes since " I say.
"I am going to get ready," Shay tells me. She gets up off of her bed and grabs a small bag from out of her dresser. She closes the bathroom door and I begin to get ready.
I slip on a pair of black jeans and a purple tank top. Then I pull out my new makeup. It's a winter collection of four colors, but works for any occasion.
I put some dark purple on the side of the brush and apply it. As soon as I finish, the bathroom door opens. The sight I see makes my eyes pop out of my head.
"You look beautiful!" I exclaim. She wears a purple cocktail dress with black lace. "Thanks," Shay says. "Oh wait, I forgot something!" She runs back into the bathroom and emerges with her large teal sweatshirt.
I give her a look that says, 'Really?' "What?" She says. "I need something to show it's me." I shrug.
"And I see your wearing makeup, for once," Shay notes. "Yup!" I say.
"Now time for your birthday present," I say. "You know you didn't have to get me anything. We are practically sisters," Shay says. "I know. Just believe me, you will like this." I say.
I go through my purse and grab a small black box. Then I hand it to Shay. She accepts it with a smile. Shay opens the box and gasps.
"How did you...?" "Your welcome," I say, cutting her off. Shay smiled. "Thanks. For fixing it." "Now," I say clapping my hands, "Lets go down to Kellin and Connor's room."
Shay puts on her newly fixed necklace and nods. I stand up and grab my cropped leather jacket and my camouflage purse. Then I walk through the door that Shay had opened for me.
We walk down the hallway in silence. Shay keeps her hand wrapped around the heart charm of her necklace. I think back to when she first got her necklace.
We were five. One of the people who worked on the orphanage that we lived in at the time ha called us over.
She gave us both a piece of jewelry. She gave Shay a necklace with a heart with her name on it. I got a anklet. The charm on mine is diamond with a large R engraved into the metal.
The lady told us that our mothers left these for us to give to us when we were old enough to take care of them.
We walk into the boys hallway and knock on room 310 which is exactly one floor above our room, 210.
Shay knocks. After waiting for a minute. I hear footsteps pounding against the floor.
The door opens and Connor stands there smiling. "Ey. What's up?!" he asks. "Just waiting on two boys," Shay teases.
"What two boys?" Kellin shout from the couch. "Are there others meeting up with us. I thought that it was going to be just us?" I laugh at Kellin's sarcasm.
"If you would get your lazy butt off the couch, then you could actually get ready," I say. "Alright. Alright, I'm coming. No need to be a nag," Kellin says.
I can hear him standing up. Then he slowly walks over to us.
"I'm pretty much...."Kellin pauses. "Wow!" Shay blushes as his eyes scan over her dress. "You look beautiful, butterfly," he says. "Thanks," Shay says.
"And how about me?" I say raising my hands. "What am I? Invisible?" "Yeah, yeah, you look great," Kellin says waving his hand. "Thanks," I say sarcasm flooding my voice.
"Is that makeup I see?" Connor asks. "No, it's kool-aid," Shay says. "Of course it's makeup!" "Well, is somebody ever fussy today," Connor says. I smile.
"Are we going to go or what?" I ask. "Yeah, just let me grab a soda," Kellin says. He then runs to the fridge and grabs a Pepsi and meets the three of us in the hall.
"Ready Bear?" he asks. I nod. "Who's driving," Connor asks. "I will," Kellin says.
With that, we all take the elevator downstairs and find Kellin's car. We all pile in and turn up the radio as we drive off to the club.
