A Dark Dream

Chapter 1

PROLOGUE

I felt my heart beating faster and faster as I ran through a pitch black forest.
Something was behind me chasing.

Closing in.

Whatever it was it was fast.

I ran leaping over fallen trees and not caring about how bad my bare feet hurt as ran as fast as I could away from the thing behind me.
I heard water ahead and pushed myself to run faster and harder.

When I got to the edge I launched myself into the water and swam as far as I could.
As soon as I was far enough from shore I turned back to see a pair of dark eyes glinting at me from the cover of the trees. Whatever it was. This thing. Its intention was to kill.

CHAPTER 1

Beep! Beep! Beep! I groaned as I got up to turn off my alarm. I walked to the bathroom to take a shower and shake off that nightmare. After drying off I walked back into my room to change.
I opened my closet and grabbed a slim purple long sleeve shirt and ripped skinny jeans.
I quickly put on makeup and headed down the stairs for school I don't eat breakfast. Instead I read and waited till it was time for school.

When it was time to go I opened the front door and stepped out.
A black wolf dog runs across my path, behind it a kid was screaming and running across the yard hot on the canines heels.

"Shadow! Stop! Sit! Heal!" Seeing the commotion I whistled once, and Shadow turned around and perked his ears before coming over and sat beside my leg calmly like he wasn't just running around the neighborhood causing mayhem.

The little boy ran up to me panting. "Thanks I've been chasing that dog up and down the street all morning he's a little rascal."

I tried to hide my amusment as I patted the shadow on his head. "So whats your name? I'm Skylin"
He stares at me for a bit and shakes his head to clear it. "Im William, I just moved here yesterday. My big brother is going to the high school. Speaking of school I better go before I miss the bus"
He waved goodbye and jogged to the house across from mine with his dog at his heels.

When I got to school I ignored my friends, and laid my head on the table. My best friend Kate started playing with my hair but I didn't care I was tired.
I was still haunted by that terrifying nightmare. I felt a weird feeling behind me and looked back to see a pair of dark brown eyes staring at me from across the room his expression was serious with eyes void of any emotion.
I quickly looked away hoping he didn't see that I had caught him watching.

When the bell rang I made my way to my homeroom and sat down in my usual spot in the back of the classroom near the window.
As the professor started class, I zoned out looking outside and watching birds fluttering by.
The teacher was droning on about quizzes next week when I heard the door open and close.

I turned my attention back to the front of the classroom to find the void and expressionless man from earlier, walked in.
Everyone started whispering about the mysterious person who had just disrupted the class.

The professor motions for the class to quiet and begins introducing the man to the class.
"Quiet down now, We have a new student joining us here today, so I want you all to give him a warm welcome. Mr. Fray please take a seat by Ms. Darnel."

I looked up in surprise and shock as he made his way to take a seat in the desk next to mine. He glanced at me once then turned away, but unlike this morning he did not look at me again for the rest of the class.

In the hall I grabbed my items for the next class and shut my locker.
I turned to the left and without looking up took a few steps forward before slamming into something hard. I look up to find the new guy peering down at me.
His eyes always emotionless. I looked down and muttered an apology, but before I could get completely past him I tripped and closed my eyes as I braced for impact.

I never felt the ground and I peeked open one of my eyes to find that he had caught me by the arm.
When I was steady enough to stand on my own I whispered a thanks and turned around and was about to walk away when I felt a hand on my shoulder.

"Hey whats your name?" He asked with a curious but puzzled look on his face.

"Skylin Darnel and yours?"

"I'm Morpheus"  He said nothing more and turned to walk to his next class.

Throughout the day I spaced out and let my thoughts wander freely.
I didn't realize the bell had wrung until someone tapped my shoulder and told me it was time to go.
