I looked back at Miranda's tomato red face as she crossly exclaimed, "Cleo! Remember rule 9, never, and I mean never walk in front of me!" At this moment I felt like letting Miranda know exactly what I thought of her, but I decided it would be better to keep that in. Especially with her followers running along behind her and chanting in unison, "Yes Cleo, remember rule 9!" Besides surely the long blonde haired, blue-eyed girl already knew what I thought of her.
When I first became friends with Miranda I had always done precisely as she had ordered. But now, I've had enough. I am sick of all her foolish old rules and her horrendous bossiness. And I absolutely cannot stand the way she struts around the school, in her cheap made to look, designer clothes and cheap cherry red lip-gloss, as if she were the prize that every guy desired. I wanted out with Miranda and she knew it. But the only way out was to break all the ghastly rules. My mischievous plan is well under way. 1 more rule to break and I will be free, like a bird. No more Miranda for me.
I still have Miranda's sickly high voice rushing through my mind. "Rule 1, always do as I ask. Broken! Rule 2, if I order you to do or say something then you must, must, must do it. Broken! Rule 3, if we get a nerdy girl cornered you must mock her just the same as I do. Broken! Rule 4, only I can high ride my skirt. You must keep yours knee length. Broken!..." As she had reminded me of all the rules I had broken her facial feature had become severely intense, her voice shakier, increasingly louder, and sounding extremely angry. Her hands had been trembling in the tight fists she had held them in. Her freakishly long blonde hair, she let curtain her face.
For a split second I felt guilty and sorry. But then I remembered what it was like to be rudely bossed and shoved around by Miranda and the guilt and sorry feelings quickly faded. Leaving me with a clear mind and pained heart, to plan out my next scheme. "Rule 10, no one, absolutely no one! Talks to Tommy Mitchells," I heard Miranda's voice echo through my thoughts. This was going to be the hardest rule to break. Tommy Mitchells is the most popular guy in school. And when I say popular I mean, there is no a single girl that does not drool over him and not another guy that wouldn't wish to be his friend. As soon as he is sighted chins drop in awe. Miranda knew that I was planning to break the 10th rule. And she knew that somehow, with a little or a lot of thought, I would eventually manage.
The siren like bell rang for the next period. Science. I've never really looked forward to science but today was different. Today I absolutely could not wait to get to class. After all, this is the only class that I share with both Miranda and Tommy Mitchells.
Once in class I took the seat just across the room from Tommy, Miranda glared daringly at me as she sashayed into the room. She sat to my left, the next closest seat to Tommy. I stared at the scientific diagrams of frog dissections long and hard. I payed next to none attention to poor Mr Rogers, our science teacher. I started second guessing my scheme, remembering that Miranda after all knew my deepest darkest secret. If that secret came out, I would be a goner. I looked over to Miranda. She was flicking her long golden locks over her shoulder and twirling small strands, flashing her pearly whites. All the while her eyes were focused directly on one person, Tommy Mitchells. Of course Tommy had noticed her flirtatious attempts but had showed absolutely no interested in Miranda what so ever. This highly pleased me as I could see Miranda stiffen and sense the frustration building up inside her.
After about 15 minutes of hearing Mr Rodger's voice drone on about dissecting frogs I finally heard the words, 'this is a pair activity.' This was my chance. For pair activities like dissections we were usually partnered boy to girl. As soon as the word GO left Mr Rodger's mouth I sprang out of my seat without hesitation. I took the 3 small steps I needed to reach Tommy, who remained seated at his desk. As my shadow swept over him his eyes slowly moved up. He was now looking me in the eyes. "What do you want?" He questioned. I stood there for a second reconsidering my plan. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Miranda on the move toward Tommy and I. This was my only chance. "Lab partners?" I asked Tommy. I watched intently as he thoughtfully looked me up and down. "Sure," he said with a light shrug of his broad shoulders. I gave a quick glance over at Miranda. She looked furious. In fact she wasn't just furious, she was also bright red and looked about ready to burst.
Throughout the period Tommy and I actually got talking quite a bit. By the time the dissection experiment was over we were talking as if we had known each other for a lifetime. I didn't realise it would actually be this easy.
The lunchtime bell rang and I slowly followed the rest of the class out into the hall and made my way to my locker. I gently opened my locker door. I was about to put my books away when someone slammed my locker shut. I sensed movement behind me. I turned around. It was Miranda and her followers. "Rule 10 Cleo, Rule 10. Broken! What do you have to say for yourself?" I looked my old friend in the eye and said, " I've broken all your rules Miranda, I'm out. I'm free now. I don't need you anymore." And with that I forced my way out through the crowd and strode away down the hall. I had done it. I had broken all the rules.
