My escape is short-lived
and just as quickly
as I had fled,
I am brought back.
This reality
is the madness I fear
and am unprepared
to face so soon.
The early morning ignites
just as the sky turns
and the sun reaches
over the horizon.
The light chases away the dusk
and the stars recede into hiding,
and I am left empty
like the starless sky.
But one star remains
and is left unforgotten,
but we are quick to forget
what it is.
The sun is a star,
just another one of the things
that make up what will be
soon called my home.
