"Mackenzie. You can't do try outs this year." Emily told me as I put my skates inside my hockey bag.
"Oh yes I am. I'm not going to play it safe just because I have a limited life." I had my mind set and there was no way in changing it. She didn't bring that up anymore. I finished putting my clothes and padding in my bag. "Ready to leave?" Emily nodded her head and we left for school.
We got there 45 minutes early. What can I say, I haven't skated in a while. I'm a little rusty. Emily and I walked into the locker room so we could change into our tryout clothes. I got undressed and put on a Toronto Maple Leaf jersey and comfy skating pants.
After me, Emily got undressed and put on an old jersey of hers and the same pants as me. We put our skates on and headed out to the ice. When we got out there, there was already three guys on the ice.
We skated onto the ice. I purposely started to skate closer to the guys. I couldn't help, but wonder who they were. They had hockey sticks and they were passing the puck around.
"Move farther back Chaz. Ryan said he wants to try a long pass." Now I knew who they were. It was Ryan and Chaz from school. Who was the other kid though? Suddenly, he turned toward me, he had chocolate brown eyes, a perfect smile, and brown hair that parted just the right way. It was the new kid!
"Emily!" I said as I nudged Emily who was skating beside me. "Who is that kid?" I asked while pointing towards him. Emily stopped skating and looked towards him.
"His name's Justin Hazla and he's from Los Angeles, California." I starred at him. Why did he have to be so hot? "Does it really matter if you know his name? I mean, all you ever do is stare at him anyway."
"That isn't true." I said hitting her on the shoulder.
"I would be able to go up and talk to him any time. I don't just stare."
"Time to live up to your words because he's coming over right now."
"What!" I turned around and sure enough Justin was skating right towards me. I turned around to say something to Emily, but she was already gone.
"Hey." someone whispered in my ear. I jumped and turned around to come face to face with Justin.
"Hi." I said.
"I noticed that you have been looking at me a lot. So, I just wanted to see if there was anything weird I was doing, but they weren't telling me." He pointed towards Ryan and Chaz. I blushed at the fact that he noticed I was looking at him.
"Oh no. It's just that...." I bit my lip as I tried to think of what to say." I thought I've seen you somewhere so, I was trying to think about where I have seen you."
"I think I can answer that for you." He said." I just moved in next door." I tried to remember any of this. Then, something hit me. Literally, a hockey puck hit me in my thigh. It hurt, even through my thick padding.
"OW!" I shouted as I looked in the direction of where the shot came from. It was Selena Gomez, my least favorite hockey player in the world. She quickly skated up to where we were standing and asked if I was alright. "Yeah"
I could see her little smirk as she turned toward Justin. "I haven't seen you all day." she said and gave him a hug. Then, the unthinkable happened, Selena and Justin kissed. It was serious and disgusting. She was starting to get a little touchy, but Justin pushed her away.
That's it Justin, push her away. No one likes when Selena gets touchy in public, not even the one she is with. I tried to hide my laugh, but it came out anyway.
"What's wrong with you?" Selena asked while trying to get as close to Justin as she could. I rolled my eyes.
"Nothing. I just think it's funny that you showed up for tryouts today. I mean, it looks like you would rather be sticking your tongue down guys throats." Justin laughed and I started to skate away towards Emily.
