I walked into my house with the smile still plastered on my face. Sure, Justin and I have only been hanging out for a few days, but I just feel this connection with him that I've never had with any guy before.
I walked into the kitchen. My mom was sitting there drinking a glass of water.
"Hi. I'm home." She turned towards me, smiled, and walked over to me. She wrapped me in a tight embrace. "Can't breath." I said.
"Sorry. It's just I haven't seen you since yesterday. I'm trying to cherish every minute I have with you sweety." I smiled.
"Love you mom."
"I love you too sweety." Michael walked down the stairs and into the kitchen.
"Hey Mackenzie."
"Hey."
"Want to go outside and play hockey? You know, if you feel good enough to play." The bad news about hockey came back into my head. My what seemed to be a permenant smile tuned into a frown.
"What's wrong?" My mom asked.
"I got a text from coach this morning and she said I didn't make the team."
"That coach has no idea how big of a mistake she made by cutting you." She wrapped me in a hug. I hugged her back.
"So, that's a no to playing hockey?" Michael asked. I broke away from the hug.
"That's a yes to the hockey. I'm not going to stop playing because i didn't make the team." I grabbed my stick from the mud room and so did Michael. When we got outside, I placed the two nets at the opposite ends of the driveway and I grabbed a ball.
"I start with the puck and I shoot at that net." I said pointing to the one with its back to the street. Michael nodded his head and I dropped the ball down. I handled the ball going back and forth on both sides of the stick and I started to jog over to Michael's side.
Once he started to come after me, I waited for just the right moment and did a small quick touch to the left and an even quicker touch to right right and I took off jogging. I had an open net so I took the shot and the ball went into the top right corner of the net. I took a bow.
"Lucky move and shot. Let's see if you can do it again." Michael said.
"Oh, I'll definitely be able to do it again." I smiled and MIchael dropped the ball. He started jogging over and I stood my ground. always make him make the first move becasue he's bound to mess up.
Just as I thought, he tried to do some quick touches, but the ball ended up going to my feet.
"THanks." I said jokingly and I ran off to the other side. I saw another open net shot and I took it. This time it didn't go in. I guess Michael had been running back and came in front off me with just enough time to stop the ball with his stick.
"No, no. Not in my house." I laughed and he took off running to my side of the driveway. He took an easy ground shot and it went in.
"Ugh I will get it this time."
"Sure you will, sis."HE smiled and we continued to play for a few hours. The score was 8 to 8 when my mom told us to come in to do homework, but this game was tied and we needed a winner and a loser.
"Mom, come out here real quick please." I asked her. She came out a few minutes later.
"What?"
"We need a winner so can you watch us take the shoot out? I promise that we will come in and do our homework after."
"Sure." I smiled and said thank you.
"This one isnt going to be a regular shoot out." He said." "We are going to take a shot from a certain spot and player will be in net. "
"Fine." I groaned. "But I get to shoot first."
"Okay." My Mom grabbed a piece of chalk and drew a line a little less than halfway of the drive way. I placed the ball down. and took a deep breath. As you can tell, my family and I take sports very seriously.
I took a shot and it went in the top right corner. I dropped my stick and put my hands up in the air, "Come at me." Michael laughed and walked up to the line and I walked to the net. He took a shot and it went in the bottom left corner.
"Lucky shot." We switched positions again and I made another shot and so did he, oN our third round, I shot and it missed. I groaned. He made his third shot. Then we both made our fourth shot. On the fifth and final shot i took a deep breath.
If I missed this, I would lose and he wouldnt have to take his final shot. I took a another deep breath and got into my shooting position. I brought my stick back and shot. It went high above the net. Someone was walking by and it hit them in the side of the arm.
Michael and I ran over to the man and checked if he was okay.
"Oh my gosh, are you okay?" I asked.
"Kind of. It hurts really bad though." The man was Justin.
"Wait, Justin?"
"Mackenzie."
"oh my gosh, now i feel even worse." I helped him up and brought him inside. I took is jacket off and brought an icepack over to him. I presses it onto the already bruised spot where the ball hit him.
'Where were you walking from?"
"Ryan's house. I was walking back home."We lept talking for a little while. After about ten minutes he took the icepack off. It was still really bruised.
"I'll call your mom. It still looks really bruised." I called his mom and she said she would be right over.
When Pattie got here she looked at his arm.
"What happened?"
"He was walking back from Ryan's and Michael and I were having a hockey shoot out and the ball hit his arm." She grabbed his arm and he flinched at the pain.
"I think we better get this checked at the hospital."
"I should come."
"No. its fine sweety." i nodded my head.
"I'll text you later of what's wrong." I nodded my head. He put his jacket on and started to leave. Before he left I told him i was sorry and he said it was fine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I waited hours for him to text me. Finally, at like 8 he sent me picture. He had a cast.
"I'm super super sorry." I texted him.
"You can make it up to me by meeting me outside. And signing my cast first."
"Deal. When should I come outside?"
"Right now." I put on a sweatshirt and walked outside and Justin was sitting on the porch waiting for me with his cast on.
"Let me sign it." He pulled out a sharpie and i signed my name big and bold on the midle of his cast. "how long do you have to wear it?"
"A month and a half."
"it was that bad?" He nodded his head. My mom yelled out the window.
"Kenzie, you need to get ready for bed. Come inside."
"Okay mom." I yelled back.
'um, i guess I'll talk to you tomorrow."
"Yeah. Bye." He walked down the steps and I watched him slowly walk away. Just before he reached the sidewalk he turned around. He started walking back up and i smiled. He gave me a hug. He slowly pulled away from the hug and stared into eachothers eyes. his hand on my sides and my hands on his.
He slowly leaned in and i did the same. He kissed me passionatly and I kissed him back. We slowly started to pull apart.
"Goodnight." He said.
"Goodnight," He walked back to his house for real this time and I walked back inside. I think i'm starting to fall in love.
