I sighed and glanced at my watch as I heard the jingle that the door makes when someone enters the small corner coffee shop where I worked. I was tired of annoying teens and inconsiderate elderly people and just wanted to go home.

A group of four bubbly sixteenish year old girls walked through the door, glancing at me and whispering to their friends before giggling and blushing. They finally walked up to the counter and I asked, "What can I get you?"

Each girl ordered, and one attempted to flirt with me. I ignored her attempts and went to start making their beverages, leaving her a little dumbfounded. She eventually walked away from the counter and to her friends.

I sat the drinks at the far end of the counter and called the girls over. They each grabbed their drinks and were out the door without a "Thank-you," or even a glance my way. I was actually thankful for that.

I glanced at my watch again. 15 more minutes...

Two more customers came in before I was finally free. When my watch read "5:00," I ripped my apron off, washed my sticky hands, put away the cash register, and went to the back room to get my wallet from my locker.

I left the coffee shop, glad to get some fresh air, free of the thick scent of coffee or the sickening-sweet smell of caramel and chocolate. I walked down the sidewalk until I made it to my apartment.

I climbed the stairs until I made it to my room, only to find a surprise sitting in front of my door. There was a huge cardboard box sitting on my doorstep. I stepped around it and unlocked my apartment.

What could the box be? I wasn't expecting any orders, or gifts for that matter. I stared down at the box once I had my door open and decided to drag it inside. It was quite heavy, and took almost five minutes just to get through the door.

I dragged the box to the livingroom floor and sat on the couch behind it. I stared at the box, wondering what it could be, debating if I should open it or not. There were no labels on it, it was simply a brown cardboard box with packing tape holding it shut.

I sighed and stood up. I decided I would open it, what else would I do with it? Set it back outside? I walked to the kitched to find a pair of scissors. I found a pair after shuffling through a few messy drawers, and returned to the box.

I sat behind it again and began sliding the scissors down the strip of tape.  I took a deep breath and opened the flaps of the box. Inside, all I saw was a bunch of foam peanuts. That couldn't be all that was in there, I thought, considering how heavy the box was.

I began pushing foam peanuts away from the middle of the box and to the sides, when suddenly I saw something black. I moved more peanuts, and, wait, what is that? Hair?

"What the hell?" I said to myself. I moved more peanuts around to reveal more hair. Thick black hair. Finally, I took a fistfull of the hair (not thinking, obviously.) and pulled up. It seemed to be stuck, so I pulled harder and suddenly a groan came from the box.

I released my grasp on the hair and jumped back, shrieking some profanity when I saw the foam peanuts in the box begin to move.
