I stood in front of the full sized mirror in my room, looking myself up and down. I had on a pair of khaki skinny jeans that were baggy on my legs with a simple dark blue t-shirt. Lucas was on the other side of the room getting dressed.

"Be sure to wear something warm, it's a little chilly outside," he said. So I walked over to my closet and pulled out my favorite jacket, a green parka.

I carried my parka to the kitchen and hung it on the back of a chair. I sat down and pulled on my old red all-star sneakers. Lucas walked out of the bedroom wearing a plain dark colored t-shirt and a warm looking hooded jacket with dark baggy skinny jeans and his Toms.

"Ready?" he asked.

"If you are," I said.

He grinned and waved his arm at me, "Let's go then."

I grabbed my parka and slipped into it as I made my way across the livingroom. I saw my beanie laying on the T.V. stand and grabbed it as I went. I noticed Lucas was carrying my skateboard. I hurriedly follwed him as we went down the stairs, he was going so fast.

"Slow down!" I said to him.

"Sorry, he said, almost stopping causing me to almost run into him. "I'm just excited, I guess."

I laughed and said, "You're ridiculous. So, where is it that we're actually going?"

"Just get your bike and follow me," He said. I rolled my eyes but did as he said.

He started skating down the sidewalk the opposite way we usually go, away from town.

After about 10 minutes, I realized where we were going. It was the only thing out this way.

"Are you taking me to the beach?" I asked.

Lucas glanced back at me, keeping perfect balance on the skateboard. "Maybe," he said, grinning.

After almost 30 more minutes, we made it to a beach. It was partially sandy and partially rocky, fairly secluded, and no one else was there. Lucas took my bike and the skateboard and layed them on the side of a small trail that led to the beach. I followed him down the trail until there was an opening and we were on the beach.

I looked around and saw a blanket layed out next to a huge piece of driftwood, a basket sitting in the middle of it, and a few candles placed around in the sand. It was perfect, and absolutely adorable. Maybe a little cliche, but totally cute. I couldn't even form words. I just stared at it all.

I could see Lucas looking at me from the corner of my eye.

"Do... do you like it?" he asked. "I mean, if not, we don't have to do this... It's kind of goofy.. Oh, God, you probably think it's totally stupid.. I shouldn't have even--"

I stopped him mid sentence by turning and kissing him. I took him by surprise, I guess because he just kind of stood there and didn't kiss me back. I pulled away and smiled at his dumbfounded face.

"I love it," I said. "It's perfect. Come on." I took his hand and led him to the blanket where I sat down and patted the ground next to me, signalling for him to sit next to me. He did and then leaned over to open the basket. He sat a plate down in front of me and one for himself, then a bowl for each of us.

He pulled out a cannister and unscrewed the lid, then poured it's contents into our bowls. Next he took out a white paper bag, stained with grease. He opened it up and pulled out two grilled cheese sandwiches, setting one down for both of us.

I looked at the meal before us and couldn't help the moisture that began to gather in my eyes. This was the first meal that Lucas made me after the first day he stayed with me.

I laughed a little then wrapped myself around Lucas. He hugged me back and we just sat like that for a moment.

Finally, Lucas said, "Um, Grif, I think maybe we should eat before it gets cold..."

I pulled away from him and said, "Right! Sorry, it's just, it's perfect Lucas. I love it."

We ate our meal and sat together and watched the waves lap at the shore for a while before Lucas stood up and held his hand out for me to take. I took it and stood next to him, then he began leading me down the beach. We walked until we made it to a rocky area that was full of tide pools.

We poked around in them for a while before walking back down the beach. We made it back to the blanket, but now the basket was gone and our mess was cleaned up.

"Oh my God!" I exclaimed. "The basket, it's gone! Did someone steal it?"

Lucas began laughing from behind me.

"No genius," he said sarcastically. "I had a little help setting up this date. Some friends came and picked it all up while we were at the tide pools."

That's when I looked around and realized that there was a pile of wood sitting near the blanket that wasn't there before, as well as a few more blankets folded up next to a long body pillow. The sun was starting to go down and the sky was turning orange.

Lucas sat out the long pillow and layed out the extra blankets as well, making a sort of pallet for us to lay on. Then he pulled something out of his back pocket, a matchbook, and lit a match. He threw it at the pile of wood and it was immediately engulfed in flames. Someone must have covered it in some kind of lighter fluid.

"Care to sit?" he asked, gesturing toward the pallet. I sat on the edge of the blankets at first, and removed my sandy shoes so I didn't get sand everywhere. Lucas sat next to me and did the same.

We sat together in silence, the fire warming us, as we watched the sun sink down. I leaned my head on his shoulder and he wrapped his arm around me. Eventually we layed down on the pillow and crawled under the blanket.

The stars came out, along with a bright full moon. We started talking then, and didn't stop until we were too tired to say any more. We fell asleep curled around each other, legs tangled together, under the stars, keeping each other warm. I couldn't have been more happy.
