boredom.
a few weeks had passed and jooyoung had finished making the basketball banner, hanging proudly on top of the bleachers. yoongi had also taken off his cast and was already playing basketball once again. although it was such a strange feeling. she had been used to seeing his stoic face on a daily basis that it felt unnatural to not see it.
"hey, did you hear?"
sunhee's rough poke had jolted her back to her senses. jooyoung looked over towards the overly eager brunette whose eyes were gleaming in delight. "w-what?"
"the basketball team's playing this weekend!" she squealed excitedly, not minding that she had bothered the other students around them. "this saturday and you need to go!"
"they are?"
"i just said so, you dummy," the brunette chirped. "and you need to go as a supporter, alright? i can't cheer on the team on my own!"
"i doubt it's the team you're cheering for," jooyoung chortled. "why do i even have to go there? can't you just confess to junhyung on your own?"
turning beet red, sunhee slapped her arm. "lower your voice, idiot! no one needs to know about that," she whispered harshly while the latter rubbed her arms sullenly. "and besides, junhyung's probably not even interested in me."
"you don't even know that," the short haired girl mumbled.
++++
the gym was bustling, filled with loud chatters and sounds of squeaking. the usually empty gym was now filled to the brim. thankfully enough, sunhee had managed to get them a good spot in the front row. they were able to see all of the players in a better position.
"hey, where's the-"
jooyoung was unable to finish her question as her friend was preoccupied, talking to a boy, looking like he was in college. she watched as sunhee smiled cheerily, pushing the strands of her hair behind her ear.
"i didn't know you were from s. university!" she exclaimed. "that's a prestigious place. you're really smart!"
the short haired girl grimaced slightly, watching as her friend tried to pull one on an older student. although he looked all too familiar, she couldn't easily point a finger as to who he resembled.
"ah, thanks," the boy chuckled, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck. "i'm just here cause my brother's playing."
"that's cool!" she grinned before holding her hand out towards him. "please call me sunny.
s-u-n-n-y. sunny.""oh, i'm han junyeong," he took her hand and shook it gently with a smile. "nice to meet you, sunny-"
"junyeong, hurry up!" a boy who looked the same age as him waved, ushering him over with a group of friends. junyeong gave him a nod before turning back to sunhee with an apologetic look.
"sorry, i gotta go. it was nice meeting you." he smiled once more before he jogged towards his friends, getting placed in a headlock.
soon enough, sunhee sat down beside jooyoung who did nothing but gave her a blank look. "university boys are definitely a catch." the brunette smiled in a satisfactory manner.
"sure they are, sunny," the latter emphasized with a smile, earning a look from the girl. "well, junhyung's probably feeling betrayed now. i hope he doesn't start bawling his eyes out in the middle of the game."
"like heck he would," sunhee chuckled.
soon enough, jooyoung's eyes strayed away and looked around the players. was he going to play today? the only person she recognized in the team was him and junhyung, the only people she talked to before. the team seemed like a bunch of hardworking players and barely took the time to spare her a glance. it's not like she did mind that though. she was rather thankful they didn't.
.
"the coach finally allowed you, hyung."
the grey-haired boy wrapped a band around his head, lifting his fringes. he couldn't deny, he was slightly nervous to be back in the game and earning a 'i'm counting on you, yoongi' from the coach. it all seemed to bundle up into pressure. he wasn't too sure if he was going to do well after losing weeks of practice.
yoongi grunted in response to junhyung's statement. that was probably the only type of response he could give towards the younger boy right now.
with a short glance at his red jersey, he said. "let's go."
they came out of the changing room and straight into the court, where his teammates where warming up on one side.
"come on, hyung," junhyung patted his back before jogging towards the others, earning a ball.
he licked his lips. it all felt nostalgic, seeing this many spectators once more after weeks. it wasn't too long ago, but he felt deprived. he looked around the bleachers, taking in the familiar view when-
he saw those familiar dark orbs.
yoongi couldn't hide the surprise in his eyes as he locked gazes with that all too familiar eyes he had seen weeks ago. that too, he was deprived from it. he hadn't seen her in weeks after finishing the banner and it felt oddly strange to see her again after.
a smile spreads in her lips as she held her arm up and waved, mouthing a few words.
good luck.
it was definitely an odd sensation, he thought. seeing her sit there by the bleachers with that smile, he couldn't help but allow his hands to move and wave. it just felt natural at that moment. the nervousness and pressure from earlier had soon dissipated into thin air, and all it left was a new found determination.
yeah, he was definitely going to win.
