She smiles smugly for she knows that she will always be the bane of our lives. Impossible to live without; impossible to explain our inability to function without her. So here she must remain; a queen among peasants.

She decides who we are and who we will be and oh how she revels in it. She looks down her nose at our terrified faces, adjusting her haughty glare: "You are a doctor and You are a baker and You? I do not care."

If she were seen she would be a primary colour, used to mix other shades yet also painted alone. She would probably be yellow: crucial to the palette, often forgotten. She would form beautiful shades of magnolia, canary and saffron, of lime, emerald and peacock.

She's the sole butterfly, introducing caterpillar to caterpillar, always leading the way. Before I knew you I knew her and when we met it was she that brought you my way.

She is everything, but almost nothing and she will always be.
