Nora POV
I stretched, smiling. My light curtains ruffled in the wind, and a pencil dropped from my messy desk I never used anymore.I pranced into the kitchen, where my family waited; My brothers, Henry, Jay, Zac, and Kaden, my parents, and my cats, Oreo and Casper. Mom winked at me, and pushed a bowl of cereal over the counter. I went and sat on a stool, and began to dig in.
"It's the first day of school!" Dad sang, shoving a mouthful of Eggos into his mouth.
"Yay..." Jay mumbled, stirring his cereal around his bowl.
"If I have to eat my food, you have to!" Henry protested.
"Can I go to Micheal's house this weekend?" Kaden asked, putting his bowl in the sink.
"Well, Jay doesn't have to eat," Mom said, leaning towards the boys. "He can starve if he wants to, Henry. You will have a full belly until lunch. Kaden, you're always ahead of me! When did you even talk to Mike?"
"I called him on Skype."
"Whoa! Look at the time," Dad said, lifting his shirt off of his hidden watch. "You guys have to catch the bus."
Zac suddenly burst from his seat and ran into the hallway where our shoes were, surprising everyone. Jay yelped, and his chair tipped over. I laughed.
"Come on, boys! Catch up to your brother! You too, Nora!"
"Yup!" I responded, and took after Zac.

I skipped into school, and waved at my friends. Some came to talk to me about their long summer. I spotted my best friend, Emily, and trotted over to her.
"Hey, Em!"
"Hi, Nora." Emily smiled at me, her brown hair bobbing back and forth as she rummaged through her messy locker.
"How was your summer?"
"Good- ack!" She screeched, and lurched back.
"What?"
"A banana a kid put there from last year... If not the year before," she said, plugging her nose. I gagged.
"Well, my summer was great! I went to a camp-"
"As always," Emily muttered. She looked at me. "Oh, um, go on."
"Okaaay... I also went swimming at Lake Dire, to prove to Jay that it was healthy to swim in. Well, I'll admit it wasn't healthy, but it was swimmable."
"Is that even a word?"
"Who cares?"
"Our English teacher probably cares."
"Oh yeah... what was his name again?"
"Mr. West."
"Yup, I remember." I nodded my head when the bell rang. I had four minutes to get to class, and haven't even put away my stuff. "Bye!"
"Bye!" She waved, trapper keeper in hand, and turned away to get to her first hour.
I shoved my stuff into my locker, not caring if it was organized or not, and rushed to my first hour, math, just as the one minute bell echoed through the hallways.

"Hi! My name's Nora!" I held out my hand to the girl that I sat next to. Her eyes were a hypnotizing purple, and I stared at them. When she didn't take my hand, I took it back to my side. "What's yours?"
She blinked at me. "Brunhild."
She looks lonely. She needs a friend. I smiled at this thought, and, for the rest of the day, sat next to her except for one class, English, when I sat next to Emily.
I bet we'll be friends someday, I thought at the end of the day. Someday...
