I stumble over the books and loose papers on the floor of the apartment in my bare feet. I stub my toe on the oak dresser and hold in a cry of pain. I swipe the key card off the countertop and go to the door that will lead to the lab.
I hastily swipe it and I hear a tiny click. I throw open the door and grab the black and white journal. When I've reached back to the window, they're gone. I groan and slump on the bed. My throbbing toe is turning red and it isn't looking good. "Oh, shit!", I exclaim. I've forgotten to lock the door!
If anyone, or anything, got into that room, all my research and data would be destroyed and I'd be back at square 1. I walk to the door, key card in hand, and type in the lock pass code. I sigh in relief and lean against the wall.
Suddenly, a nasty odor comes up. "Sniff check", I say to myself. I raise my arm up and......"Ew, bath time." I brush my hair away from my eyes and slowly get ready. Once I've gotten completely naked, I open my bathroom door. It's not much of a bathroom though.
Plain, white walls, a metal tub big enough for only one tiny person, a shattered mirror I found in this apartment, a dirty old white bath rug, a small cracked toilet, and a towel cabinet. I get the water bucket and pour it in the tub. I step in and the cold water send a chill through my body and prickles my skin. I force my self to dive deeper into that frigid water and I grab the soap. It's not relaxing, but it's cleansing.
Once I'm finished, I step out of the tub and wrap the fluffy towel around my body. I dry myself off and pick up the tub. I hoist it up in the air, and then pour it down the hole in the floor. I step out into the bedroom to find some clothes. I manage to find clean undies and some skinny jeans that are still covered in dirt from last week's raid.
I find a pink bra lying on the floor and put that on too. That's when I hear the IM machine go off. I scrounge up a beige v-neck and race to the lab.
