A/n: figured I should update
Drinking was a godsend Katherine decided as she threw back a flute of champagne in the most unlady like fashion. Sighing with content, she headed back to the bar deciding that yes, another drink was most definitely needed. Taking her place at the bar, she ran a hand through her straight hair missing the sensation of her curls.
"Rough night already?" The bar tender asked while cleaning a flute with a crisp towel, his elbow resting on the bar.
Katherine nodded with a soft laugh. "Well I suppose rough nights make for better business for you."
He laughed, tossing his head back long hair flowing. "I reckon you're right." Turning to face her, his name tag was presented and Katherine decided that yeah, he looked like a Jared.
Jared poured her another drink as a pretty little thing scampered his way, her eyes already turning red with a high of some sort. "Jared!" She giggled reaching for his arm across the table. "You wouldn't believe the shit that I just got from Harry."
Habit, instinct, desire who the hell knew but Katherine flinched at the name. Harry, yes lots of Harry's were in the world and she hoped this girl's Harry was safe because Harry's are hard to lose. "Little early for that huh Caroline?" Jared teased giving the girl a small bop on the nose. "Don't like you doing this you know that."
Caroline, fitting really, rolled her eyes and sat beside Katherine who really wanted to be anywhere but this party, however these two seemed good company. "Harry wouldn't hurt me, you know that."
Jared rolled his eyes hating this, hating all of this this entire plan was ridiculous. " Sure, but just remember what happened the last time you took something from him." And the time before that and the one before that. He was so close to the edge himself, but his little girl was already there. Harry was an alright lad but not worth his Caroline getting involved, not that he had claimed Caroline as his own or was even able to because people don't belong to people. However, he his feelings were valid and there was only so much a heart could take and this situation was well past that level. "Speak of the devil." He grumbled as Harry was set to make his arrival.
Harry was close to running, making long strides his hair flowing back in his usual greasy curls. The ballroom seemed as endless as a desert with only one oasis in sight. He was there, time slowing and vision tunneling to only Katherine. Only Katherine could make him feel this way, only Katherine could make him do the things he had done, and only Katherine would redeem him in the end.
Caroline glanced over her shoulder, perking up at the sight of Harry looking happy for the first time since she had known him. "Oh look there he is!" She waved as instructed and Katherine couldn't help but search for this girl's Harry.
Katherine found him, saw him alone in the sea of people with tears in his eyes. No, it couldn't be him the features weren't right but how could it not be? She felt like she was drowning, the sounds blurred together and pulled her down beneath the surface ready to follow the current that Harry brought to her.
Speechless, she brought a hand to her lips covering the sob from escaping her. Katherine stood slowly, walking as quickly as she could to close the distance between them. "Harry?" She asked her throat scratching.
His smile spread quickly, wiping at his eyes softly. Nodding, he pointed to the exit then brought a finger to his lips. Not here, too many people, meet me in the hallway it was understood between them from their school days so long ago. As soon as he appeared, he vanished becoming no more than the ghost he was before tonight. Katherine knew she was going to the hallway if only because she would die without a chance to see him again, to hold him again, to hear him say her name again.
Excusing herself from no one at all, she burst through the exit flying past Aaron and went to the balcony where she found him. Tall and lean as always, Harry opened his arms to her, teasing smile at the ready, "Hello Katherine."
Time might have stilled for the lovers, but not for the rest of the world. A very tired, Aaron watched on filming their interactions. He was the king of double crossing and was not about to let Styles walk away without ensuring he got what he wanted, and what Aaron wanted was Caroline.
