The next day, I was working on my English homework when my phone chimed with the receiving of a new text. I picked it up to see that it was Collin.

Hey what's up?

I quickly texted back:

Working on my English homework. U?

Bored out of my mind. Wanna hang out?

Yeah. I need a break from this torture ;)

Cya in 5?

K

I grabbed a sweatshirt and yelled to my mom that I was going for a walk, then slipped out the back door. I met Collin halfway between our houses.

"Hi," I said.

"Hi," he said.

"Um. Want to go to the park?" I suggested.

"If you'll lead the way," Collin replied.

We walked in silence for a while. Finally, I worked up the nerve to ask, "Is everything okay?"

Collin sighed. "Not exactly. My older brother, Mitchell, is home from college for the weekend. My parents have been fussing over him. 'What do you think of the house?' they ask. 'What do you want to do with your room?' they wonder. They ask him all about college. My parents don't realize that although Mitchell has been going to college for only a few months, I've been going to my new school for one day. I was sick of being the unimportant child so I wanted to get out. And here we are," Collin finished.

We had arrived at the park. There were only a few kids, running through the grass and climbing on the jungle gym. Collin and I walked over to a deserted area and laid down on the grass, looking up at the cloudy sky.

"I just... I wish I was noticed. I wish I wasn't so unimportant... I just wish I wasn't so...so..." Collin drifted off, unable to think of the the word he wanted.

"Invisible," we said at the same time,

We laid in silence for several minutes, both lost in thought.

Suddenly, snow started to fall from the grey cloudy sky above.
