The man ran up his girlfriend's apartment stairs and knocked on her door. When she opened it, he took no hesitation and pulled her into a hug.
"I love you." He said.
"I love you too." She started to cry into his shoulder. He sat her down on the couch. "I know I haven't shown it lately, but I really do love you, and I promise to never take you for granted again. I'm sorry my love." He wiped away her tears. As she wiped away his. And they sat for quite some time, holding each other in their arms. And for years to come, everyday, the man would think back to the old man's words, "if you love her...."
