We stood far from the gates. The mansion was three floors tall and obviously very, very old. A lump formed in my throat. This was a bigger clan than I thought. The iron gate was chained shut, but it wasn’t like that was a problem. Any of us could easily leap over it. My fingers flexed around the sword blade. The plan was to sneak in from the east side and search undetected for any information on my father. My team looked at me, waiting for the signal. I gave them a nod. Silently we jumped onto the stone wall. Moving with intense speed we ran to our destination.
A window was open. Only problem was, it was small. Only big enough to fit me. Damien grabbed my arm and shook his head. He didn’t want me to go in alone. I gave him a light kiss on the cheek.
“Go around to the west side and find an entrance. I’ll meet you inside.”
Damien started to protest, but Rex intervened.
“It’s for the best Damien,” He spoke in a hushed tone. “Its better she goes in alone here. Don’t worry. Now let’s go.” The vampires pulled my fiancé away quickly. I turned my attention to the dark room.
Climbing in I examined my surroundings quickly. It was a bedroom. The looks of it made it seem like it was a palace. A soft sound echoed through the room.
Someone was in here.
I grasped the handle of my sword, crouched down and listened. Another noise. Was it laughter? It sounded more devious than that, kind of like a dark chuckle. Suddenly my sword was torn away from me and I was knocked onto my back. Hands grasped my shoulders, pinning me down. I bit my tongue to avoid speaking – crying out would only cause more to come. The attacker sat on top of me. Baring my teeth I hissed at him.
“Get off of me you overgrown mosquito.” I growled. He rolled his eyes.
The vampire leaned towards me, a devilish grin on his face.
“Usually I have to lure the girls to my room. But you’ve made it easier on me and came straight here.”
I didn’t like how close he was to my neck. I’d never been bitten by any immortal before, and had no idea what the effects would be. He kissed the curve of my jaw, teeth pressed against my skin. “And lucky me, you’re a pretty one.” His mouth moved further down to my neck. “Usually I like to have fun with my victims first,” He breathed, “…but I’m so hungry.”
Oh man, oh man, oh man.
My mind was screaming fight, but my body wasn’t responding. It was like I was in some kind of trance. Was that a part of the danger of these vampires? They spell-bound someone into a paralyzing trance?
I felt his cold breath on my skin as his mouth opened. Then in a heart beat he was gone. Someone or something dragged him off of me. There were sounds of hissing and biting. I tried to see, but my body was still under the vampire’s trance. After a few seconds the struggle broke off with a loud snap. Someone grabbed me and pulled me up. I staggered forward, getting my feeling back.
Looking at my rescuer I saw Jake before me. I opened my mouth to greet him, but he held a finger up to his lips. Motioning for me to follow, I gladly did so. He rushed into the hallway quietly. We walked silently down the hallway, peeking in doorways for enemies.
Emotion of happiness overcame me. I was thrilled Jake was back, but now wasn’t the time to be distracted. I had already been attacked once. It wasn’t for Jake then I probably would have become another corpse. He grasped my hand and pulled me into a closet. The space was small and filled with coats. Jake closed the door slowly. He instantly grasped my upper arms. I felt heat and electricity between us once again.
