Chapter 5: Anything But A Ball

When I get home after dropping Tommy off at his house to pull himself together and get ready for the party, I immediately head to my dad's room. He's awake when I come in, and the moment I see him, I can't help but grin. He's reading a novel, and his expression is always one of deep concentration.

After a moment he notices me in the doorway and shuts his book.  He breaks into a heart-stopping grin, and I catch a glimpse of the young man he once was. He always tells me stories of the hearts he's broken since he was a teenager, and even though he makes it sound like a joke, it isn't hard to believe that he's probably being more truthful than he realizes.

"Hey Princess," he exclaims. "How's my baby girl doing?" I smile and go to sit in the chair next to his bed. "Pretty good," I reply. "Tommy invited me to a public school party tonight." I say in a mischevious tone.

He gives me a silly look. "Ooh, a party! Just make sure you take condoms and your gloves with you," he says, winking mischeviously. I playfully punch his shoulder, and laugh. "Daddy!" I whine.

His face turns serious. "But seriously, princess. I don't want my baby girl getting hurt."

I'm suddenly overcome with emotion, and I hug him as my eyes begin to water. "Oh Daddy, I'll be fine. I love you." He coughs quite a bit before he finally manages to reply, "I love you too Princess."

I get up and head upstairs toward my bedroom to begin getting ready. I take a quick shower, and blowdry my hair to perfect dryness, and pull it back into a braid while I decide on what to wear.

I walk into the walk-in closet that's about the size of my bedroom and look through the racks of clothes to find the perfect outfit. I decide on a read bustier dress that has a black leather skirt, a pair of black distressed tights, and a pair of ankle boots.

For my makeup I decide to go with a smoky eyeshadow and red lipstick to match the dress, along with messy curls to complete the look. Once that's done, Tommy walks into my room and flops down onto my bed. He looks dashing in his untucked button-down shirt and dark jeans. I glare at him through the mirror though. "You should've at least knocked. I was just about to change."

He looks up at me lazily. "Anna, I've seen you half naked before. Nothing new there." I breathe out a huff and retort, "When we were 12 and I had mosquito bites instead of boobs." But he makes no move to get out, so with a sigh I pick up my ourfit and head to my closet. Once I change and come out, Tommy does a wolf whistle. "Damn you look sexy!" I laugh and motion for him to follow me.

We head down the stairs to the second floor, and I yell goodbye to my dad as we pass by his room. As we head down to the ground floor, we meet my mother at the base of the stairs. She eyes me up and down and asks, "Going somewhere?"

I glare. She has no right to ask if I'm going anywhere. She's never even home anymore. "Tommy and I are going to a party tonight. we may or may not be back before dawn. I'd say don't bother waiting up, but I know you wouldn't anyways." I reply haughtily. She grabs my arm in a vise-like grip. "Don't you dare talk to me that way," she growls.
