It was finally Monday, my first day of school at Meadows High. I felt the nerves creeping up inside me as I walked down the halls of my new school. I was on a search for the Student Counseling Center.
I didn't really know what to expect- showing up to a new school in the middle of the semester. Sure, I knew some people here already- thanks to my decision of joining the soccer team. But as I walked down the halls I couldn't recognize one single person. I tried avoiding eye contact with the other students after realizing that most of them were staring right at me. 'Had they never seen a new student before??' I hated feeling like the new fish in the pond, it made feel nervous and slightly intimidated.
Finally, after a good 7 minutes of walking aimlessly down the halls, I came across a small brick building with big, block letters on it that read 'STUDENT COUNSELING CENTER'. I stared at the door for a brief second before taking a deep breath and stepped inside.
"Good morning!" The the girl standing behind the front desk greeted me. She was a short, thin, blonde.
"Morning." I smiled. "I'm here to pick up my class schedule." I said- confidence rising from.. who knows where?
The girl smiled at me. "Oh, you must be Leah Dawson." She said, turning to grab a sheet off the organized desk behind her.
I nodded my head, 'yes'.
"I'm Allie Gates." she smiled, reaching out to shake my hand.
"Nice to meet you." I smiled and shook her hand.
"I'm supposed to give you a tour of the school before class starts." She said, turning to grab her coat off the coat rack next to the her.
"Oh, thanks." I let out a small smile. I was relieved that I wouldn't have to walk down the school halls looking lost again. I waited for her to grab her stuff before we stepped outside.
"So where are you from?" Allie asked as we walked down to my first class.
"California." I answered.
"Oh, cool." She smiled. "This is where your first class is." She said as we stopped at room 120. "All of the English classes are along this building" she explained. I nodded my head before we headed towards my next class.

As we toured the school, I noticed that almost every person we passed by greeted Allie. It lead me to believe that she was one of the popular girls at school. It made sense, she was a really pretty girl. After her little tour, she offered to save me a spot at her table during lunch. She mentioned that she was best friends with Stacy, Jade, and Lily, some girls from my soccer team, and that they'd be sitting with us aswell.
My first four classes, English, Geometry, Biology, and Spanish went as well as they could go. Luckily, I had made a few acquaintances in each class. Lily and Jade ended up being in Biology with me. I partnered up with them during the lab portion of the class.
After Spanish followed lunch, which I couldn't be more grateful for. I had made the terrible decision of skipping breakfast this morning, so needless to say, I was starving.
"Leah!" I heard someone call out my name as I walked through the cafeteria with my lunch tray in hand.
I turned to look in the direction that I was being called and noticed Stacy waving her hand for me to come her way. Allie was sitting at the table, hugged up by some guy- most likely her boyfriend. It was just the three of them.
I made my way to their table and sat in the seat next to Stacy.
"Hey girl!" Stacy hugged me from her seat. Stacy was really girly, if anyone were to meet her off of the soccer field, they would never be able to guess that she could play any type of sport at all. She was a short, skinny, brunette who was really into fashion.
"Oh, I love your outfit!" She complimented, pulling on my leather jacket. I smiled and thanked her. I had trouble deciding what I was going to wear today, I didn't want to look too dressed up or too dressed down, so I had decided on wearing black skinny jeans, a black shirt shirt covered by my favorite black leather jacket and some white converse.
"So, how do you like it here so far?" She asked, tucking her long, brown hair behind her left ear.
"I like it." I nodded my head. I reached over my tray to grab the orange that sat in one of the slots. "Jade and Lily are in my Bio class." I mentioned.
"Oh, that's good!" She smiled. Reaching to grab her salad bowl from inside her purse. "You met Allie already." She said pointing over at Allie- Allie smiled at me.
"This is my boyfriend, Dylan." Allie said, leaning into his shoulder.
"Sup." Dylan gave me a head nod. He looked tall from where he sat, he had short black hair, tan skin, and green eyes. He didn't look like a sophomore at all- 'he's probably a senior' I thought to myself.
"Hey." I smiled.
"You're Steve and Chris' cousin, right?" He asked, taking me by surprise.
"Yeah, you know them?" Curiosity filled my eyes.
Dylan nodded his head. "I do little jobs for them here and there." He replied.
I frowned. "At the tire shop?"
He gave me a slightly confused look. "Uh, I deal fo-" He started saying, but stopped mid sentence. "Yeah, the tire shop." He said instead.
I stared at him for a moment, wondering what he was really going to say, but I decided to let it go.
Suddenly, Jade and Lily came over to the table. "Hey Chica's!" Jade greeted us cheerfully. "Dylan." She gave him a serious look and a head nod, trying to look cool- we all laughed at that.
Dylan shook his head and cracked a smile. "Where's your brother?" He asked looking at Lily.
Lily shrugged. "I don't know." She replied. "Probably ditching again." She spoke nonchalantly as she took a seat next to Allie at the table.
Lunch lasted a total of 40 minutes. We sat there and talked about our up coming game on Friday and about some supposed 'slut' from school who was spotted making out with Lily's brother, Peter. Dylan invited us all to a bonfire that he was having tomorrow night at Meadows beach. He said we'd be the only sophomores there, everybody else would be seniors. I told them I'd have to let my Uncle know, but that I most likely would be able to make it.
After lunch I had Dance and then Librarian's aide for my last class. Overall, my first day of school went pretty good. The kids at school that I had encountered were all pretty cool and the teachers all seemed to be nice. I was really beginning to like this place.
