Cold. That was the word to describe this day. As I dug my hands inside my jean jacket, wishing I wore a heavier jacket, I walked to my lake through the woods. I was so used to the warm weather, but since it was the beginning of winter, I couldn't stand not wearing a tank top. The weather man was always wrong on News Channel 6. My mom always says just go with the flow, but I never got used to  the saying. As I arrive at the lake, Josh is already skipping rocks without me.

"Where were you? I have been sitting here for 10 minutes!" he said with a chuckle.

"I was at school. Where were you?" I said.

"Look, Shay, you need to start doing it."

"Josh I am not skipping school."

"Come on! We can go ice skating. Its supposed to snow for 3 days next week. Just get a doctors note!"

I thought of the idea for a moment with silence. I did love ice skating, but mom would kill me if I didn't go.

"How do you know its going to snow for 3 days? The weather is wrong!" I yelled.

"Shay! You know I study the weather!"

It was true he always studied it. He always got the weather right.

"Well where am I going to get a doctors note!"

"Duh! Make one!"

I thought about it and said yes, but only because if I didn't, he would get on his knees and beg. The thought of him begging was weird. Me and Josh were like peas in a pod. We were friends since kindergarten. When we played hide and seek, instead of who ever is found first is it, we would put an ice cube on a plate. When the ice cube melts, then the other person was it. We acually still use it today. As night fell, we walked home together. I deeply love Josh. There is something about him. His smile and his eyes. His eyes are clear blue when mine on the other hand are hazel. It feels so wrong without him right there next to me. When I arrived home, everyone was asleep. After I hang my jacket up, I take a hot shower and hop into bed.

The week passed by quickly. I barely noticed though. After school was over Josh told me to meet him behind the school.

"What?" I asked.

"Are you ready for tomorrow?!"

I had forgotten about the ice skating.

"Yeah I'm ready," I said lying.

"Here's your doctors note. I appears you have......small pocks!"

"Oh wow. Small Pocks."

"Remember! Lake! NO SCHOOL!"

"Ok, I'll remember."

I knew that it was going to be a long day.

As I walk to the lake, I realize that it really did snow for 3 days. I had never seen so much snow. When I arrive, Josh is waiting.

"You're here!" he said with excitement.

"I'm a ditcher!"

"Don't think about it like that. Lets just say that there is no school. Yeah, no school."

I couldn't think about it like that. Josh just told me that there is no school. Yes there was and I am missing it! As I put on my skates, Josh is already skating.

"Are you sure this is safe?!" I asked.

"Of course. Lets just skate until the ice melts."

I start skating for a while until this. I here a crack. I thought at first it was Josh because he brought chips. Then I here it again.

"JOSH!" I scream.

The ice breaks. All I hear is Josh screaming. Everything turns black. I couldn't move or feel anything. All that I could do is float in the freezing water and freeze to death.

I wake up in a hospital bed with a guy standing above me.

"Oh my god Shay.." Josh says. I cut him off.

"Who is Shay?" I asked struggling to remember.

The doctor walks into the room.

"Hello Shay. My name is Dr.Christian. You fell in a lake and almost froze to death. Your friend Josh saved you."

"Who's Josh?" I asked.

I couldn't remember anything. That guy started to look worried and then the doctor said I had severe memory loss.

"She doesn't remember me? We were friends since well forever." he said.

"I'm sorry. There is nothing we can do."

Months passed as I forgot everything in my life. Josh had helped me remember him and my mom. He had to lie to her that I was at his house. Josh said he had a suprise for me. He took me to a lake. He told me it was called Shay's Lake.

"This is the lake where you almost froze to death." he said.

Then he he took me hand and kissed me.
