Sisters

I take your fedora hat,

You steal my brush,

I throw your scarf at our angora cat.

Our screams and yells,

Can be heard clear down the hall,

Louder than a thousand bells.

Mum tells us to be quiet,

We ignore her in our riot.

Mum's had enough:

Here she comes in a huff.

Reprimanded, we make amends,

And we're back to being best friends.

We giggle and laugh at our foolishness,

Wondering at our own mulishness.

"Let's go outside, for it's a beautiful day,"

With all honesty, I say.

The door bursts open as we run outside,

Racing each other to the seaside.

Waves crash and seagulls cry,

But we pass them all by.

Finally we reach our destination,

And look up at the huge cliff's high elevation.

With a mischievous smile,

I grab a ledge and haul myself up: always the trouble-making juvenile.

Not far now,

Don't look down, I'll make it there somehow.

Here's the top,

And our hideout,

As a place to rest and stop.

My sister's right behind me,

So I help her up to see.

We sit down on the edge,

And watch the sun set over the rock ledge.

We hold hands and my sister rests her head on my shoulder,

Because, at the end of the day, we're still sisters.
