As happy as you were to join James and his team, man, the hoops you had to get through were horrendous.

First came being considered to join, although, seeing as your family had ties to Team Rocket, that wasn't the worst. You kind of just nervously gave a last name and were recognized immediately. The real challenge was being registered in Team Red. See, you were supposed to be registered with another team because Red had 2 people and a Pokémon already. After pleading from the other three, you got over your anxiety and asked yourself.

"May I be in Team Red?" you had timidly asked.

Luckily, your father had been well-respected, leading to Giovanni's respect in you. He saw the promise your father showed, and decided you'd be beneficial to Jessie, James, and Meowth.

Okay, so the hoops weren't that bad, but Giovanni was..intimidating. Respectworthy, but still scary.

As you reflected on how you joined, you groomed Thunder. She purred, rubbing against you. You looked up.

Pretty late, looks like.

You looked behind you. The other three were passed out, Meowth curled up by James. You smiled. Cute. Yawning, you lay down. Thunder on one side, and James on the other, you fell asleep, feeling...safer, in a way. A level of safety you hadn't felt in years.

Later, you woke up. Seems a bit early to get up. Odd. You'd gotten accustomed to your internal clock waking you up at the right time, save a few occasions. What had woken you up? You came to the realization that this was not the position you fell asleep in...

....and, sure enough, when you looked, you found that James was clinging to you in his sleep. You blushed, though it wasn't visible in the darkness. Smiling, you gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before getting back to sleep.

You woke up again in the morning, and, surprisingly, there were no disasters overnight. You poked James beside you, who groaned sleepily.

"'Morning."

"...Good morning, (Y/N)." he yawned as he stood up.

You swore you saw and heard Draca wink and chuckle at you, and if she could, you knew she'd be taunting you jokingly. What a silly Dragonite.

You went to wake up Jessie. Meowth was already up.

...and you had a horribly great idea.

"Go, Luciana!" you whispered, sending out your Blaziken.

Sorry, Jessie. It's what you get for oversleeping.

"Use Fire Punch on Jessie!" you ordered.

Luciana used Fire Punch.

"AAH!" screamed Jessie. "My hair!"

You ran away with Luciana to see Meowth and James, withholding laughter in case the wrath of Jessie stormed over to them.

"Quite an amusing show, eh?" you smirked.

"Yep." James and Meowth simultaneously replied.

Luciana walked over to Draca. The two Pokémon began to talk to eachother; of course, you didn't know what about. Quite a peaceful atmosphere. Too bad you couldn't take the day off; it was another day of trying to steal Pokemon.

Truth was, you yourself actually ended up excelling at stealing Pokemon. Still, your teammates hardly played a part, and you had never gotten that Pikachu. Either way, Giovanni held great respect in you because of your own skill.

You got a phone call. "I'll be back, gotta take this." you said to the team, including a burnt Jessie.

"Yes, Gio?" you picked up. Gio was a random nickname you had created. You had no idea why, but Giovanni did nothing about it; sometimes you felt he feared you. Ha.

"Would you mind going on a mission?" asked the gruff voice.

"What kind?" you questioned.

"I need information on the Johto Pokémon Lugia. It may be dangerous. I cannot say for sure if you can make it. With your intellect, though, you likely will." answered Giovanni.

This sent chills through you,  but it sounded exciting.

"Can I bring the rest of Team Red?" you asked.

"I'd say no, if you all want to live. In fact, I'd prefer they don't know about it. If you can, go without telling them. I don't know what you'll do when you come back, but you may need an excuse." Giovanni told you.

Lying to your teammates? Lying to James? You....weren't sure. You didn't want to lie to people close to you, especially the man you loved.

Yet...this was a great opportunity. What if you declined? Gio might assign someone less suited to the job. What if they failed, or worse? You didn't want anyone to die because you didn't accept the job. You swallowed.

"I will do it."

"Good. I will need you to set off tomorrow. I will send directions to the nearest Pokémon Center anonymously." Giovanni finished.

You hung up and put your phone in your pocket.

When you walked back over to the team, they were clearly confused. "What's up, (Y/N)?" Meowth asked.

"Oh...it's nothing." you sighed, trying to give an amused edge to your voice and failing spectacularly.

Meowth somehow believed you. Still...

You looked over at James. Concern was clear on his expression, and it took everything you had not to spill everything about the mission to him.

....what would you do?
