Being with Ace was treading on thin ice. No one in Ace's family knew about me, including his absolutely terrifying mother, Matilda Jackson (it makes no sense to me either, I mean who gives a giant, terrifying woman the name Matilda?) Up until recently, I didn't know that that they didn't know because apparently 'It never came up.' Let me tell you how I found out...
It started when I was at his house, no one as home as was usual for my visits. How convenient... Lord tell me how I didn't see this coming! Anyway we went upstairs and had barely settled before the front door opened Ace sat up like a freaking meerkat and turned to me with a ridiculously wide smile on his face.
"Hey," he said cheerfully "Here's an idea! Why don't we play a game!?"
"Please don't tell me you're one of THOSE guys!"
"Not that kind of game! Ugh, no. Why don't we play hide-and-seek?"
"Is that a rhetorical question? Because I can think of a whole load of answers."
"Yes, it is. Now get under the bed...go on."
"Doesn't you telling me where to hide kinda defeat the purpose?" I said from beneath the bed.
"One, two, three..."
The bedroom door swung open and all I could see was a pair of pink shoes. Definitely not Ms. Jackson then...
"Alice! Hey! Whatcha doing here?"
"Forgot. My. Bag." panted a little girl's voice.
"Oh?" said Ace nervously, "Where'd you leave it?"
"I don't remember..."
"DON'T LOOK THERE!" Ace yelled.
"Leave me alone." And a little blonde head appeared from above the bed.
"Hi." I said awkwardly waving.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" she screamed.
"Girl, what you screamin' bout!" an angry voice yelled from downstairs it finally hit me that maybe, just maybe, I wasn't under the bed for the purpose of Ace finding me, rather, dare I say it, for the purpose of someone else...not.(now would probably be a good time to tell you Ms. Jackson was from Mississippi or somewhere around there.)
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" was Ace's little sister's response.
"You better stop screaming or imma come up there and give you somethin' to scream bout."
"There's a monster under Ace's bed!" I'll admit I was having a bad hair day but that was a little extreme.
"A monster? Ain't no monster up there 'cept Ace." she chuckled, large footsteps plodded up the stairs and that's when it hit me. They had no clue. I was in some deep....er...poo?
Ms. Jackson reached the bedroom door and walked slowly towards the bed with the Jaws music playing behind her...or maybe that was just my imagination...
A large hand grasped the covers that were half hanging over the bed, I tried to push myself against the wall and out of sight but I was as far back as I could go and then-
"I FOUND IT!" Ace breathed a sigh of relief...
Sadly so did I...
''AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!'' Screeched Ace's sister.
''AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!'' shrieked his mother as she pulled up the cover.
''Shit.'' muttered Ace.
''Well,'' I said in my cheeriest voice, from under the bed to the room of screaming females and all but sobbing males. ''I'd better be off.''
''Damn right you better!'' screamed Ms.Jackson.
''I'll see you on Friday!'' shouted Ace.
The absolute cheek of him!
