A young woman hurried over to a long wall mirror with white trim and checked her appearance in the mirror. She had dark brown hair that went down to her shoulders and fair skin. She had light blue eyes and her cheeks had a slight tint of red to them. She had a slightly curvy and slim figure that was covered with worn out dark blue jeans and a light red plain sweater with a white long sleeve collared shirt underneath it.
Suddenly, a chime was heard in the house room. She women turned her head and quickly hurried over to the noise.
The women lived in a medium sized tan house in Fillmore, California. The outside showed a two-story house with a garage attached to the front of the house, and a paved driveway leading up to the white garage door. There was white trimming around the house and windows, with a darker shingled roof. To the right of the house was a small porch slightly bigger than the dark brown double doors.
Once you stepped into the house you are greeted with a small hallway with cherry wood flooring and stairs leading up to the rest of the house. The light tan paint was covering most of the walls with white trimming. When you walked through the hallway you could see a door that would lead into the garage, and at the end of the hallway would be an arch that would lead into the kitchen, dining room, and living room. While upstairs there were two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
She quickly snatched the small device off of the black marble counter in what looked like a kitchen and she looked at the phone in her hands as they shook slightly. She slid her finger lightly over the lock menu and brought up the messenger app.
Hello Emma, we just landed and will be at your residence in an hour. Please make sure everything is set for Hae-Rin by the time we get there.
Emma sighed and made her way out of the white cabinet kitchen and into the living room in front of the kitchen. She walked around the black coffee table that was on top of a white shaggy rug as she sat down on a brown leather couch. She sighed once again and laid her head on the back of the couch and thought over the last couple of years of her life.
It was crazy for a 23-year-old to be adopting a child this early in her life but over the last couple of years, but she had felt like something was missing. When Emma was 18 she found out that she couldn't have children because of a fatal car crash she was in. It had fractured her pelvis in many areas which caused her to not be able to have children, at least the normal way. She had always thought about a c-section but it was a huge risk because of her past medical health.
It took months for Emma to start walking once again but she still walks with a slight limp. Emma was told that when she became older her hips and pelvis would become more fragile and she might have to be in a wheelchair.
Four years after her car crash she had become a nurse for the Emergency unit at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, which was located in Los Angeles, California. Emma has been working there for a year now but during her studying process to become a nurse and after finding out she couldn't have children without a huge risk, she felt as if something was taken away from her.
After being hired at Northridge Hospital Emma started looking into adoption agency's and one stood out from the rest. They had kids from all around the world looking for a better home, so she had called the agency to ask them questions and after talking to the agency for a few hour's she knew this is what she wanted to do.
They gave her a list of children and she scanned through them but stopped on a five-year-old girl from South Korea named Hae-Rin. Her black hair was straight and to her shoulders, and she had bangs covering her eyebrows. She had small and dark brown eyes were so full of mystery, and her fair pale skin didn't have a single freckle or beauty mark. Anyone could mistake her for a doll.
Her smile was small but it was full of happiness. After learning that Hae-Rin was left in the street's when she was a baby but now lives in a run-down orphanage, Emma quickly called the agency and told them that she wanted to adopt Hae-Rin.
The finalization and paperwork were going to take over a year to process so Emma enrolled in Korean language class to help better understand Hae-Rin, and the agency also sent Hae-Rin to an English language class paid by Emma so Hae-Rin wouldn't feel out of place when she got here.
When Emma heard that everything was approved for Hae-Rin's adoption two weeks ago she broke down into tears of happiness as she quickly started to think of ideas on how to decorate her new daughter's room. Hae-Rin's room was a decent sized bedroom with a medium sized closet inside the wall, and cherry wooden floors. Her walls were painted a light yellow, with white trim.
Hae-Rin had a full sized bed that had a white Victorian wooden frame and was covered in light pink bedding with fluffy white throw pillows. A white wooden desk was on the left wall facing away from the bed and had butterfly notebooks and a pink desk light. Next to the closet was a white wooden bookcase filled with fairy tales and English learning books, and on the wall with the desk was a painted Sakura tree that Emma had painted herself.
Emma snapped out of her thought's when she heard the doorbell ring. She quickly scrambled to her feet and dusted anything off of her clothing as she fixed her hair quickly. She heard the doorbell ring again and she quickly ran through the hallway that led to the front door. Emma stopped in front of the dark wooden door and slowly reached for the doorknob as she took a deep breath.
"Time to meet your new daughter." She said to herself.
Emma opened the door with a creek and was met with two figures. A very tall and slim lady with a gray blazer and black pencil skirt was standing in front of her. Her ash brown hair was up in a bun with a few strands shaping her face and gray eyes staring into Emma's blue ones. Her skin was tanner than Emma's but still on the fair side.
Emma looked down at the other figure and smiled. Hae-Rin was standing next to the lady and looking at Emma with excitement in her eyes. Hae-Rin was wearing a light blue dress with small white polka-dots covering the fabric that reached to her knees and black flats.
"Miss. Johnson I presume?" The woman asked Emma.
"Yes, I am her. You must be Mrs. Wilson, and this must be Hae Rin." Emma said bending down on her knee's slowly to meet Hae Rin's eye level, but Emma felt a little discomfort coming from her hips as she bent down.
Emma ignored the feeling and smiled at Hae-Rin and she smiled back at her. Emma reached her hand towards the little girl for a handshake but Hae-Rin didn't take her hand, but instead she flung herself at Emma and hugged her. It was so out of the blue that Emma didn't know what to do but she quickly found her tiny body and hugged her back with a slight giggle from both of them.
That was the first time Emma had ever felt a connection with anyone and she knew that the missing part of herself was slowly being filled with the help of Hae-Rin.
