"Ah, Miss Carter, it's nice to see you awake, now I have a few questions, just answer what you think is right. Okay?" The doctor seemed completely oblivious to my paleness. I just nodded in response.
"Okay, what year is it?" The doctor looked so serious that the laugh I felt building died down.
"2009, I think but last I remember it was nearly new year." I was beginning to confuse myself with all of these thoughts. I shifted my gaze to the man who called himself my fiancé, he looked shocked and in pain. Maybe he should be in here too.
"Ok, how old are you? If you don't mind me asking." The doctor smiled at me encroachingly.
"Emm, 22, and 6 months, I know it's sad I still count the months." I answered sheepishly.
"I thinks it's super cute." My fiancé said suddenly. I blushed immediately and hid behind my long hair.
"Okay, thank you for that Miss Carter, I have some good news and some bad. The good news is you only have a slight fracture in your left arm, but that should be fixed in about six weeks. The bad news however that is you have amnesia, specifically you have lost five years of your life. As I don't know if you will believe me here is a newspaper for you to look at. I know this'll be a shock but you need to stay relatively calm." The doctor and nurse then left.
I just sat there, I couldn't believe it, five years gone like that 'poof'. Before I could freak myself out, there was a little cough coming from the man in the chair my fiancé. My fiancé! That explains why I don't recognise him.
"Do you want some more water?" He asked politely. I shook my head in a trance. I had a fiancé, me, the girl who has only had two boyfriends in her life.
"Do you have any questions Abs?" he asked concerned. I nodded slowly.
"What's your name? When did we meet? When did we get engaged?" I asked breathless.
He chuckled, then spoke "I'm Michael, preferably Mike. We met four and a half years ago, at a coffee shop, and have been together ever since. We got engaged a week ago today." He smiled affectionately, as he talked.
"How old are we?" I asked unsure as he looked young but mature.
"You are 27 and 6 months, and I'm 28 and a week. We always count the weeks and months." He smiled.
"Wait, did you propose on your birthday?" that is so adorable. He blushed and slowly nodded his head.
"Aww" I didn't mean to say it out loud but I just couldn't help myself form from saying it.
He blushed even more, and looked at me, and sighted deeply. He was so attractive and cute in that moment that all I wanted to do was kiss him. My eyes widened as I realised that I really, really wanted to.
A voice spoke and I jumped, whacking my arm off of the end of the bed. "Ahh!" it was so sore I started to cry. I then felt a pair of arms wrap around my middle. I snuggled in to him, he felt warm, safe, like home. These thoughts only made me cry harder. Mike started stroking my hair and started to coo that everything would be alright.
Ten minutes later I had stopped crying and Mick was trying to cheer me up.
"So what do you wanna do know?" he asked. I thought for a minute.
"Can you tell me about my...our life together?" I asked cautiously I didn't want to hurt him. He slowly nodded.
"We live together in a house, you moved in three years ago and completely redecorated. When we met we spilled our coffees over each other, because we were too busy texting. You then grabbed my phone, added your number and changed my ringtone to "Call me maybe". To state the obvious I thoroughly embarrassed myself with that." We both started laughing so much that tears started to fall down our cheeks.
We were still laughing when a nurse came in saying I needed some rest and that Mike had to leave, He kissed my forehead a left, promising to be back tomorrow morning. I feel asleep wishing he was still here, next to me.
