Chapter two...
Leathertongue shifted her paws impatiently as Icestar rambled on to Jaystorm. "Because we can't afford to lose an apprentise.." she was meowing, with soft concern. "It's fine Icestar." Jaystorm inquired "Moonpaws only been gone half a day, he'll be back I'm sure." Icestar glanced over at her deputy, Leathertongue, who was grooming her already silky black fur absently. "Leathertongue perhaps you would go and look for Moonpaw while I talk to Jaystorm?" She meowed, her smooth voice wavering a little with tiredness. "Sure." Leathertongue meowed. She touched the tip of her tail on icestars shoulder lightly and smiled. "Finding grumpy apprentices is my specialty." She said, and before Icestar could say anything else, she turned and raced out, towards the clearing. It had began to rain. Only lightly, but Leathertongue could sense a storm brewing. Thick black clouds had covered up every little patch of blue in the sky. Moonpaw had better be somewhere close by, She thought, or else he'll be stuck in the rain, and I'm not getting my pelt all wet and muddy for an apprentice who won't do as their told.
"Moonpaw?!" Leathertongue yelled out for the 100th time. It was begging to get dark now and rain was pouring down, but she still hadn't seen any signs of the grey tom. "Moonpaw!" She yelled again. as she sprinted from tree to tree along the border, hoping for some kind of shelter. "Where in starclans name are you" she sighed.
She was running to the next tree when a grey shadow dashed out of the bush beside her and hit her side, bowling her over.
She squirmed and hissed until she turned around and realised who it was.
"Moonpaw" she growled "you little mouse brain." she said, annoyed. Moonpaw glanced from side to side and then sat down with a huff. "so no ones with you?" he asked, a look of worry mixed with utter disappear on his face. "Uh... no." Leathertongue meowed. "I don't think so... why? ... no wait, don't answer that. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL DAY LONG?!" Moonpaw ignored her, getting back to his feet and padding away at an easy pace. Leathertounge raced after him. "I think some time in the elders den might do you some good." She queried. "Sure Leathertounge." Moonpaw meowed. His voice was absent, like an echo, His pea green eyes fixed far in the distance of the snow topped hills. "Moonpaw?" Asked Leathertounge "are you alright? What happened?" Moonpaw looked at her and tried to smile, bleakly. "I'm fine." But Leathertounge just stared at him quizzically. "honestly I am." meowed moonpaw. He turned away, pushing through the brambles and stepping out onto the path that lead back down to the meadow by camp. Then he glanced back over his shoulder. "You coming?" he meowed. "Coming where?" asked leathertounge. "To camp of course." said moonpaw and started to pad down the path. "Oh thank starclan he's going home." breathed Leathertounge, and trotted along to catch up to him.
