Deathbringer was guarding his queen as usual, at the outside of Glory's treehouse hut. He could hear the cicadas chirping at the top of their lungs. Even though he had been all over the continent, the rainforest was by far the most beautiful place he had ever seen. Deathbringer could see the hammocks the RainWings slept on slightly rocking back and forth as they slept. Some dragons might have called it unusual that Deathbringer was the most awake at night, but three MOONS, they were NightWings, which, if you asked him wasn't so unusual that they should be more awake in the night. Deathbringer curled his tail around his talons and sat back on his haunches. He was getting kind of bored, so he decided to peek into Glory's hut through the one open window. Deathbringer saw his queen sleeping soundly, her long flexible tail curled up around her, her now semi-camouflaged brown scales rising peacefully with every breath. He wished he were guarding her inside the hut. What if a certain IceWing froze a hole in the back of the wooden hut and snuck up on his queen and killed her while she was sleeping? What if a smoldering vengeful Queen Scarlet set the hut on fire? Deathbringer would be outside the hut, unable to get in, and Glory would probably burn to death. He couldn't even think about it, he was afraid that if he did, he would end up trapping Glory in her hut and never letting her go anywhere. Which didn't sound like such a bad idea, but his queen probably wouldn't approve of it. Alright, that's it, I'm going paranoid, he thought. Deathbringer was usually calm, cool, and collected, but with possible assassination plans going around in his head, he decided to quietly creep inside Glory's hut. He was probably going to get yelled at if he was caught, but he was sure he could charm Glory into forgiving him. Deathbringer quietly crept across the wood platform, making sure no creaking noises escaped from the rickety floor. He edged into the hut, and snuck around the edges, letting the shadows envelope his black scales. Luckily for him, his assassin training paid off, and no noises escaped from the floor. He looked over to where he saw Glory sleeping, and his heart stopped. Queen Glory was no longer there. Deathbringer whirled around, panic flooding through him. Where could she have gone?, his mind frantically wondered. And then, out of nowhere, he felt a talon touch his back. He whirled around, and came face to face with the angry expression on Queen Glory. "GLORY!" Deathbringer yelled, "Where did you come fro-" "Shut up!" Glory whispered. "You're going to wake up the whole rainforest with your shouting! Now, I'm almost afraid to ask, but WHAT were you doing spying on me while I was sleeping?" Uh oh, Deathbringer thought. Surely he could come up with a clever and charming explanation.
