Shadowpaw's eyes shot open, he felt as if he has been sleeping for hours. Not tired at all, he scrambles to his paws and took a big sniff of the air. He could smell his clan.
He looked at his surroundings and soon realized he was in the medicine cats den. Tigerheart, the medicine cat was looking at her supplies trying to find something for Shadowpaw. "Oh, you're awake." She mewed softly.
She nudged some weird-muddy looking medicine towards Shadowpaw's face. "What's this for?" He asked curiously. "Just take it." She meowed simply.
With no hesitation he slurped up the formula in a heartbeat. Tigerheart gave him a weird look and continued talking. "So, you went with Lionclaw on a mission?" She asked.
"Yes, he said he needed my wits." He didn't sound as proud as he wanted to because he realized that Lionclaw proved he is nothing more that a clever cat. That's not Shadowpaw wanted to be seen as, he wanted people to see him as a strong and healthy warrior.
"You must be hungry, go get some mice, Flowerpaw and Windpaw brung back some tasty mice." She insisted telling that Shadowpaw was feeling down. He dashed from outside the medicine cats den and arrived at the juicy fresh caught mice. Joy filled his face as he grabbed the fuzzy creature in his mouth and trotted to the fluffy bush were the apprentices ate their prey.
Windpaw and Flowerpaw walked up to him with their fresh kill. "So Shadowpaw, how was your mission? Oh wait, sorry! How was Lionclaw's mission?" Flowerpaw growled. "Lionclaw asked my to come with him!" ShadowPaw meowed. "Yeah, but I heard you just cowered in the bush the whole time. Some warrior your going to be!" She hissed back.
"I think you did great, Shadowpaw. You were brave enough to help Lionclaw when he was about to be killed! Don't listen to her." Windpaw mewed. "Thank you Windpaw, you're very kind." He was happy someone actually understood him for once.
"Pff" Flowerpaw spat. The warm light of the sun hit her face, making her jump. Windpaw tried not laugh as Flowerpaw scurried off into the shade.
"Just give her some time, she'll get use to her jealousy" Windpaw joked. "I will then" Shadowpaw teased back.
Spottedtail trotted over to the apprentices. "How's training going for you two youngsters?" She mewed curiously. "Fine" Windpaw meowed as she interrupted Shadowpaw. Spottedtail nodded understanding Windpaw.
"Well, I'm going to go check on the queens." Spottedtail trotted softly back to the queens den.
Windpaw suddenly looked at Shadowpaw. Her sparkly eyes caught his attention. She looked at him for another minute and turned her head away. Shadowpaw blinked slowly and made his way back to the apprentices den.
The next day Shadowpaw felt refreshed. He was ready for his hunting duty today and was since last night. Lionclaw padded up to Shadowpaw and nudged him. Shadowpaw looked up at the warrior and nodded. He followed him and Windpaw through the glowing green woods.
Lionclaw stopped and sat down licking his paw. "We are here" he mewed between licks.
Shadowpaw loved to hunt, especially rabbit. Rabbit was his favorite.Windpaw already disappeared into the bright green forest. He could smell that she found a water vole. He stealthy stalked up to her and watched as she quickly killed the creature that was lapping up some mucky water.
"Good." Shadowpaw mewed. "Sorry, I didn't know you were a mentor" she teased. "But I am older then you!" He snapped back playfully. "Are you challenging me?" She asked, now ready for whatever Shadowpaw was going to say.
"Maybe" he meowed. She laughed as she launched herself onto her friend and playfully bit his neck. He tossed her off and leaped on her while swiping at her ear.
She giggled again and squiggled out of his arms. "Your not a bad fighter" he meowed. "Why wouldn't I be?" She asked. He shrugged and licked his chest fluff down.
"Well sometimes one is better at hunting, or healing others. Not all cats are made to be a warrior." He meowed.
"Sounds right" she replied. "Now go get some rabbit!" She playfully meowed. Shadowpaw laughed and hoped through some bushes.
He picked up a scent of a rabbit and something else. He smelled Scarface, and he was terrified. He knew he came back to find him or Lionclaw so he darted back to Windpaw.
"It's time to go" he meowed to Windpaw. He trotted along the forest to find Lionclaw with Windpaw behind him.
When Shadowpaw and Windpaw arrived were Lionclaw was waiting nobody was there. Lionclaw had gone missing and so did Shadowpaw's duty to go hunting again.
