One more fight. Just one more, and I can go home. I start heading to the fighter's gate. As I entered the last hallway, the intoxicating stench of cheap cologne filled my nostrils.
"What do you want this time Derrick?" I asked, turning to look into the plump man's beady little eyes. Derrick is the owner of this pit we call an arena.
"Don't have that tone with me." He ordered as he revealed a cigar in his pocket. He quickly lit it and took a drag. He made decent money. For a fighting ring, he made incredible money pinning women against each other in skimpy clothing.
"You only come down here when you have specific instructions for me, sir." I crossed my arms while watching him adjust his stingy yellow suit.
"We have special guests tonight. The Council of Lycree to be exact," Perfect, bloodsuckers. "I know you have a distinct distaste for them, to be perfectly honest, they freak me out but, I need you to give them a little show and behave." Behind me, I can hear the announcer starting to get the crowd excited.
"Play with my opponent, take a few hits and, give a well-earned win. I can do that." I told him before turning and heading to the gate.
"And behave! No back talk Nicole!" I rolled my eyes.
"That's not my name," I grumbled as I watched the gate rise. I step out into the arena, squinting from the bright lights.
"And in the Red corner, our defending champion-"
The crowd goes quiet; even the announcer seemed to lost his voice. When my eyes adjust to the light, I see my opponent reeling in a chain with a blade attached to the end.
My neck suddenly felt wet, I lift my arm to the right side of my neck and inspect the skin. Once I pull away, I look down at my hand to see it completely covered in my blood. I barely made out the smirk on my opponent's face before my vision blurs.
I feel numb and start to fall. Before I hit the ground, everything becomes black.
