Red Ice

He hit the ice with a sickening crunch. Pain. Pain was all he could remember after that. He was vaguely aware of someone calling his name. "Vi-" he tried to remember who it was but only the first part of the older man's name came to mind. He started to feel the darkness closing in on him. It was a comforting feeling. He didn't like the shouts and bright red color that was coating his vision. He welcomed the darkness, leaving the man yelling "Yuuri" behind.
The gentle breeze in the meadows woke Yuuri up with a contented sigh. This was where he belonged in the peace and calm. However he couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing. That something wasn't right. He sat up, smiling as a blue flower tickled his feet. He shook his head. For now it didn't matter.
He stood up and looked across the rolling hills. He was slightly confused by this. Wasn't he in the ice before? hadn't he just messed up a jump? Shouldn't he be in pain? He shook his head to try to clear the thoughts when he thought he heard something. It was almost like a soft whisper at first. Just tendrils of a word. After a minute of listening, he could depict a word. It was his name.
"Yuuri." He heard, the softness of it making him sigh.
"Yuuri!" The voice was louder this time. It seemed to be trying to bring him back to the pain.
"YUURI!" This time the voice started Yuuri. He gasped and his eyes widened as the pain came back. The gentle pastel colors of the meadow and the warmth he had felt had been a comfort. He didn't want to be back here. It hurt. He groaned in pain as he felt something bump. Was he in a car? No, not a car. An ambulance perhaps?
The voice that had been telling his name was talking again. It was so fast and... Was that a different language? He mumbled an incoherent phrase to show that he remembered Viktor. That's right. They were fiancé's. Viktor was also his coach.
"Yuuri! Yuuri can you here me? It's going to be fine! Everything will be fine."
He groaned again, the pain becoming sharper. He wanted to go back to the meadow. It was peaceful there. He closed his eyes, trying to leave the pain behind.
He woke up again. Now he was surrounded by white walls and a white ceiling. He could feel his head throbbing and he couldn't feel his legs. When he tried to move them they wouldn't move. A few minutes later the man who had been sitting beside his bed, Viktor, woke up. He blinked a few times, unsure if Yuuri was actually awake. When he was sure, Viktor smiled his signature heart shaped smile.
"Yuuri! Your awake! You've been asleep for 3 days." He said.
Yuuri gasped. Three days. He was about to ask about his legs when a nurse came running in. She started rapidly talking to Viktor in Russian and then smiled at Yuuri.
"You will not be able to walk ever again. Unfortunately the fall broke the nerves in your leg. I'm very sorry." The lady said in broken English before nodding to Viktor. She then left the room in a flurry.
Yuuri couldn't ever walk. That meant he couldn't skate either. He would have to use a wheelchair. It took a second for that to process but one it did he could feel the tears sliding down his cheeks as he started to sob. Viktor was quick to try and comfort him.
"Yuuri... It's alright... We'll figure this out together. I promise." He whispered, rubbing his thumb on the back of Yuuri's hand. Yuuri didn't say anything as he sobbed into his fiancé's shoulder. The world was never going to be right again.
