LIZA IS PREGNANT. In less than seven months, Liza was going to have a baby.
I forgot about my phone that I had previously just dropped on the floor and bolted for the front door. I swept up the keys on the bench into my hand on my way past and jumped into one of the cars. Thank god it was the right key. "Dana!" I heard yell after me as I backed out of the driveway. I ignored their shouting, as I took off into the night.
I hadn't drove a car in a while, so I was a little worried about how this would turn out. I mainly tried to focus on the road ahead of me, as I made my way to Davids place.
The yellow glow of street lamps lit up the empty footpaths, as I pulled up on the side of the road and jumped out of the car (almost forgetting to turn off the engine first). I was panting like a dog by the time I got to the door. "David?" I called out, knocking rapidly. I kept knocking, waiting for an answer.
A sniffling, teary David opened the door. I wrapped my arms around him and held him tightly. "It's okay. What's wrong?" I whispered against his shoulder, walking inside with him. He sat down and poured his heart out to me, and I only nodded and told him it would be okay. "I don't know what to do." He explained, wiping his eyes. I nibbled on the inside of my bottom lip, not knowing what to say. I'd never been in one of these situations before, so I had to make up everything I was saying as I went. "Look, David. Just be there for her? I'm sure she's just as scared?" I suggested, realising she wasn't around anywhere. "Say, where is Liza?" He pointed towards the bedroom and I got up and made my way over. I knocked gently. "Liza?"
I sat down on the bed beside Liza and rubbed circles over her back. "I don't know how to tell my parents, or even anyone for that matter." She whimpered out. I hugged her gently. "Give it time, maybe." She sobbed, snuggling her face into my shoulder. "I'm here for you, so I'm willing to help in any way." I told her, allowing her to cry. David walked in, tip toeing over to the other side of Liza. "Liza?" He asked, and she sat up to face him. "Whatever happens, I'm here for you and this baby." He said, and my heart instantly melted. Who knew my brother could be so touching? I left them alone and waited in the lounge room. By now I had realised that I didn't have my phone and I had left it back at the house. I yawned, snuggling down on the couch. I closed my eyes, breathing slowly and heavily. Tonight had been so far, eventful. I just wanted to sleep forever at this point, to get back for all the nights I stayed up for hours on end. I felt my eyelids become extremely heavy, and my whole body drifting off into (hopefully) an endless slumber.
And that was it."Dana?" Someone who was shaking me constantly, tried to wake me up. I mumbled, pushing them away. I arched my back, stretching out as much as possible. I managed to flutter my eyes open, to see Liza. I smiled sheepishly and sat up, yawning. "What's the time?" I pushed aside the blanket that was on top of me and made room for her. She sat down and checked the time on her phone. "Eight forty five." She said, laughing quietly. Wait, I slept the night here? I looked out the window, and it was indeed, daylight outside. "Oh."
I spent the morning with Liza and David and had breakfast with them and they seemed to be getting along really well. I was happy for them both, but I was worried about the others. I just left without a word and I'd also been gone all night. I told David I'd come 'round tomorrow hopefully, or even later tonight. He said okay, so I had that planned. After that, I drove back home and pulled into the drive way. I turned off the engine and hopped out. "Dana!" I heard the boys yell as I went in through the back. Before I could say
anything I was knocked over and now laying on the ground, flat on my back. "We were so worried about you! Where'd you go?" Zane told me, rolling off of me. I winced, getting up too. I didn't know what to tell them, and I didn't know if they wanted them knowing yet or not.
"You might want to talk to David." Was all I said, immediately going silent. They were all confused, yet worried as they all looked towards each other. I yawned, watching them. "You tired?" Heath asked, approaching me. "A little." I nodded, leaning against him. "Go to bed, we can go out later tonight." Scotty said, shooing us off. Heath scooped me up, my breath hitching in surprise. "W-what are you doing?" I asked, quietly and curiously. "Taking you to my room." I didn't respond. I relaxed in his arms as he lowered me down onto his bed. I yawned, rolling onto my side. Last nights sleep sucked, and all I wanted was at least two hours of decent sleep. I slowly let my eyes fall closed, and Heath put on some quiet music. I could feel a smile creep onto my face. He knew. He knew that I liked listening to music when I was trying to sleep.✧
"I used to listen to music every night."
"Really?"
"Really."
"Do you still listen to music?"
I turned to him and shook my head.
"I don't."
"Why not?"
"I just can't seem to listen to it like I did before... it's like, I stopped enjoying it after I lost my best friend."
He only nodded, brushing my hair aside. He stared me in the eyes and asked me,
"Is there anyway I can help you to like it again...?"✧
And with that, he left the room quietly, leaving me to the empty, comfortable and quiet atmosphere.
