when all is lost

Kayla POV

When I got 'home' I see Shadow on the floor, sleeping peacefully. I tried quietly creepin around him, but his little nose twitched and he woke up, sniffing the air for food. I handed him a bit of bitten apple and he nibbled it happily.
'Its getting late' i thought to myself. Shadow seemed to read my thoughts for he yawned and scurried over to my corner, moving his head as if signalling me to follow, and i did.
Once i got as comfy as i could, i picked up shadow, kissed his tiny head and said goodnight. He squeaked quietly and snuggled up under my neck.
After that we both fell asleep in each other's presence.

The next morning

I woke up to...nothing? Little shadow wasn't pawing my nose this morning. I was a little disappointed to say the least so instead I decided to check my watch...HOLY SHÎT ITS 8:37 I HAVE 3 minutes to get to school.
I scrambled to pack my things, the only thought running through my mind 'crap, crap, crap, CRAP!!'
When i was finally ready to leave i left the remains of my apple on the floor incase shadow came back. And with that i sprinted to school.
When i ran through the school gated it was 8:56 i was quite late and i had Greek first thing, URGH, my teacher HATED me.

When she finally gets to class

I walked into the classroom, ignoring everyone's shocked expressions, yeah yeah i know I'm usually the earliest, my teacher Miss. Kelpi stared at me in disgust and disbelief. I think '3...2...1...boom' After a moment of staring she blows up, screaming at me that i cannot just burst into her classroom like that, blah blah blah etcetera, etcetera. But then she says something about me being worthless, that, of course, hits me right on a nerve. It makes my blood boil and i clench my teeth in seething rage.
She gets pushed down. By what, i have no idea. I just blinked and she was sitting on the floor looking dumbfounded.
Silence...
Then an uproar in the class, people shouting 'what was that!?' 'Did you see that?!' 'What just happened!?'
I too was dumbfounded, what was that?
Miss. Kelpi stared at me, fear clearly in her eyes.
"What did you just do?" She hissed through gritted teeth.
"I-i didn't d-do anything, i swear!" I say, utterly confused why she would think I would do that.
"W-what are you?" She asked, clearly shocked at something else, but what?
"What the HELL do you mean 'what AM I?' Im a fricken human being, wassit look like!?" I practically screamed at her, the class went silent.
"Y-you d-dare speak to m-me like that! Go to t-the headmasters o-office," she paused and looked at me, "NOW!"
I picked up my bag i had abandoned on the floor and stormed out of the room. 'Why did she have to be such a...a well, Bitch!' I thought to myself.

If you thought i was going to the office, haha, you thought wrong. No way in HELL am i going there. So instead i decided to skive until lunch in the bathrooms.

Le magical skip of time

When the bell finally rang for lunch I rushed out of the bathroom into the street (middle of the school) and frantically searched for Kath and Nat. When I eventually found them 10 minutes later, they looked at me, eyes wide with a mix of shock and surprise.
"Where have you been? You weren't in last period!" They ask.
"Sorry" I say simply.
"Sorry? SORRY?! WE WERE WORRIED SICK, KAY!" They start ranting about how worried they were. I just sit there, not even listening.

When they eventually calm down they probably noticed how quiet in being. Usually I'm the loudest, weirdest person on the school grounds. But today, im just too tired to care.

"Hey, Kay? You good over there?" Nath asks me.
"Wha-? Huh? Oh, yeah I'm good just tired" i reply, faking a yawn.
"What have i told you about staying up late reading FanFiction?" Kath gives me a stern look.
"Uh...hehe? Not to?" I say, laughing nervously.
"But seriously Kay, whats up? You feeling okay?"
"Oh, yeah im fine ju-" im cut off by the bell.
'Saved by the bell' i think to myself.

I run away from my friends to my next class, Geography, well this is going to be fun, note the sarcasm.

After school was over, I didn't feel like talking to my friends, so i ran 'home' to my only friend that wouldn't question my life, Shadow.

When i got home Shadow was patiently waiting there for me, it seemed. He was sitting on top of a small pile of something shiny, for me to later realise it was...money!?

My little mouse friend had disappeared in the morning, patiently waited for me for gods knows how long, and got me MONEY!!

I look at the tiny mouse, dumbfounded, but...but he is so small how can he do all this?!

Well...they do say its the little things in life but this takes it waaay to far. Like gods!

I realise im still staring at the mouse.
"Hey Shadow! Im home!"
He squeaked in reply
"What have you got there wee buddy?" I ask the little mouse, he squeaks then signals me over with a shake of his head.
"Is this for...me?" He seemed to squeak something that sounded like a 'yes'. I must just be going mad, there is no WAY a mouse could talk

'Look who's talking!'

"WHAT?! Who's there?!"

'In your mind, silly'

'W-who are you' i think

'I do believe you have dubbed me shadow, young lady'

'I - wha- who- HUH!? Are you saying SHADOW, my little mouse friend over there' i point to shadow 'is in MY MIND, and is TALKING TO ME!?!'

'That would be correct'

'B-but you sound like a normal teenaged boy!'

'That is half correct, Sweet Kayla'

'What do you mean half correct?'

'I will tell you that later, Kay. In the meantime do you have any food for me, I'm starving'

"Oh. Uh. Yeah sure here" i dig through my bag to find the last apple. Im still dazed as to what just happened.

'Thank you Kayla, you have been very kind and generous to me, this proves you are worthy'

'Worthy of what exactly?'

'That, my dear, is for me to know and you to find out all in good time'

I didn't know talking to a mouse could be so confusing.

After my little mental 'chat' with shadow, i got ready for 'bed', said goodnight to shadow, and fell asleep with an annoying pain in my back.
