Rose is no longer a blessing as was back in the day. She is rather a curse, far from resembling a rose, or any flower instead, a thorn in the flesh.
She is the prettiest but poses more manlike. She has invested most of her time watching her brothers brew into their manhood. It has always been fascinating for her, how suddenly they develop deep voices, how their shoulders broaden and how some of them boast of little goatees.
She has always felt like a rock. Confused to be blunt. She wanted to be a girl but not benefit any further from it after her early teenage days. She only saw it as limiting factor. Most men adored her till the point of talking to her. She was a hustler. She was that man inside they would also dream to be someday.
She did not notice it. All she wondered was why other women were so confused. She saw the sun & it opened up her eyes. This winter , she was ready to head for the mines with Ben, the youngest of the brothers.
All her younger sisters had suitors and potentials the very same year. Two were about to wed into rich families. She did not see the need to. She felt complete. Love was absurd to her. How all these other girls fumigate after receiving word from an admirer was absolute stupidity.
The other women would make fun of her. The society understood she was lost. She had no belonging. This all never seemed a problem till the father had a mishap and finally set everything straight before his time to kick the bucket was at hand.
