Launching off the ground like a cork being shot out of a bottle, she leaps into the air, flips over, switches her legs in a tour jeté, flashes a smile at the audience, then lands softly and carefully, streaking off stage to meet me in the front wing.
"Nice job out there; that was one of the best I've seen you do!"
She smiles broadly, coppery skin shining after being under the beating rays of the stage lights.
"Thanks, but you were better than me," she says.
"No! You dominated out there!" Beaming, the both of us reach up to fix our wispy hair, despite the fifteen sheets of Aqua Net in mine. Hers defiantly springs back out of its tight hold in a bun at the crown of her head as she pulls out a hair tie. Its curliness stands out like her personality, energized and thick with excitement. A light sprinkling of freckles run across the bridge of her nose and under a pair of warm cocoa brown eyes, locked on the action in front of her onstage. I finished, pulling my hair back and smoothing it down but she was still trying to corral hers. Her hand brushed against a single diamond stud in her ear, reflecting the light from every angle and radiating it across the side of her cheek. Finally, finished with her wild hair, she adjusts her skirt, straightens up, and prepares herself to leap back into the spotlight. Glancing back, her smile flashes at me again before shooting off. I spring after her, the both of us completely in our element.
